In looking for a martial art to study, I tried a few, and all of them are awesome, but most are…read morereally slow to get to the practical use stuff. Then I found Peak Krav Maga. Peak Krav Maga trains locals in Krav Maga - an Israeli martial art. From the moment I started training, I began learning defenses I could use should I find myself in a situation where I need to defend myself. I went for my first class (back in June of 2009) and it was free (everyones first class is free!). I went to one more and then I was ready to commit to learning this style. They offer very competitive pricing and packages for 1, 2, 3 people, familys and more! They do have classes for kids and adults, and most of the offered classes are available during convenient times. The best thing is that the instructors encourage everyone to take each class at their own pace and always hang out to address questions students have after class. After many months of going 4 days per week, I feel I am in much better shape than when I started (I didn't even make it through my very first class), I have tested to level 2 and am just about ready for level 3 testing, and I feel if I have to defend myself I would be able to do so in a smart and efficient manner. Oh, and I lost a good bit of weight! I highly recommend this if you are looking for a good way to get or stay fit, or if you are looking for a good self defense martial art. You can check out events and hours at their website - http://www.peakkravmaga.com

I was a chronic fitness quitter until I found Krav Maga, the teachers here do a great job of keeping classes fresh and challenging. If you decide to try it out the first class is free and it's sure to get your blood pumping no matter what your current fitness level - the instructors stress that each individual should work to their own fitness level (good advice if you're out of shape like I was). As for what's taught, Krav Maga isn't like your typical martial art... you will be hitting something in every class, there is a reasonable amount of physical contact (they go to great lengths to train safely, the only rule is 'don't get hurt'). There aren't really any forms or Kata, just a set of guiding principles and straight forward combatives. i could probably go on for pages about how much I love Krav Maga, come to this place and give it a try. Oh, and they have some kids classes too, haven't tried those.

They do a whole week free trial and the kids program always looks like a good time! Coming here from training at several other schools this place stood out for their wonderful community and positive way of coaching. Plus Professor Vanessa leads an absolutely amazing women's team and program - if you're a woman looking to get into BJJ there's no better place to learn the sport than among a whole team of supportive women! Anyone looking to train and uncertain feel free to add me as a friend and message me with any questions.

He's a ball full of energy, all the time, and I wanted him to get enrolled in an after school activity to siphon some of that off, and make friends. Three years later, I've also enrolled, and now we're learning together. I didn't know much about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) other than it was used in UFC, I've never done a martial art, and I've never been athletic. The best part is that none of that matters, you only need to bring the will to learn and curiosity to try, and the rest will fall into place. BJJ is a unique martial art unlike any other, and we're lucky to have such a high caliber of instruction in Colorado Springs. As a martial art, it's exciting and has great self-defense techniques, as a sport, it's thought-provoking and a fantastic work out, and as a lifestyle, it stirs emotions and inspiration, pushing you to achieve what you never knew you were capable of. Professor Bryan is an extremely humble, knowledgeable, and energetic teacher who I have seen transform the lives of kids and adults for the better. When you enroll, you aren't just getting classes, you are joining a school and a community with coaches and fellow classmates that cares for one another and is invested in everyone's development to reach their maximum potential. I've had more fun as an adult then I've had in years. My son and I have met wonderful people we're glad to call friends. This is a vibrant, diverse school that deserves a special place in the Colorado Springs culture. You can try a week for free, and once you do, you'll wish you signed up sooner.

Unlike other schools they do not make you sign a long term contract, you just need to give a 30 day notice. They regularly have offers on Groupon for intro classes. Very affordable and its tons of fun. The classes are primarily cardio/fitness oriented but they do mix a lot of technique so you actually learn some martial arts. kickboxing classes at this location are on Monday Tuesday and Thursday at 5PM to 6PM and on Friday's from 6:15 PM to 7:15 PM. You can also go to the Stetson Hills school on Monday and Wednesday from 5PM to 6PM so you have a full week of class options. Their primary business if full Kempo training for all ages and levels and regularly see good participation and class sizes with well behaved children. I lost 60 lbs in 7 months with a reasonable diet and going two or three times a week so totally recommend it.

I joined them as a level 2 (orange…read morebelt) from another krav maga school that had to close down for a couple of months to relocate and I didn't want to lose momentum during the break. Pros: The instruction at KMSC was solid, the other students were nice, the facility was well maintained and had lots of toys (kickbags, padded walls, gear, etc.). Cons: 3 issues that helped me decide not to do a second month while I was waiting on my primary school to relocate. 1 - I got a bad vibe from one of the business owner's who tried to pressure me to sign up for the next month on my first night (before my first class) in order to lock in the best rate. 2 - They allow too many students to sign up for a given class. For the more popular class times, there were several nights that month where we couldn't do the full technique we were being instructed because there wasn't enough mat space which defeats the purpose. 3 - This school has a strict "no shoe" policy on the mats... which sounds good on paper, but it's KRAV MAGA... we are grabbing, grapling, sweating on each other, etc. I played along and went bare foot like the rest of the students and I got a mild rash on my foot. Nothing major and it cleared up quickly, but I would rather role around on sneaker mats than go barefoot on other people's sweat. At my other school, we kept our sneakers on. That may sound gross at first, but think on this: gas pumps and door knobs are dirtier than toilet seats... you really think the bottom of your shoes are cleaner than your partner's hands that they are using to grab your face? Fortunately, my first school has recently re-opened, so I'm happy to be going back there. KMSC is not terrible, but just not for me. So... do with that what you will.
