Zaatar is a great lunch and easy family dinner spot in Coburg. Located on Sydney road, it's easy to spot and lots of street parking as well as parking spots at the Coburg market, outside Woolworths and Coles nearby. Zaatar has outdoor seatings and warm space inside. Most of the usual bakery menu cost around the $3-$4 mark and makes for a very cheap and quick lunch. For dinner you can try the bigger option including mezze plate with dips, pizzas and wraps. I like the dips and salad options too. Zaatar feels like a bit of an extension to your local Middle eastern lunch bakery. It's dressed up enough to take the parents and casual enough to take your messy kids. I like it, cheap and cheerful as they say!

I can't believe I'm lucky enough to live next door to this place!! O'Hea's Deli is a perfect old…read moreschool Brooklyn Italian deli. One of the things I miss the most from NYC is Graham Ave Meats. Perhaps the greatest deli in the world. And Oheas is just like it! With a bit of a very miniature eataly feel due to its market like setup. They've got the good coffee. Since they are so big on their Italian style coffee in Australia, I've found the best coffee is always at the Italian places. It's just darker. (ps, if your accent doesnt give away that you're American, ordering a long black every time will.) They have great sandwiches. (nowhere near graham ave, but that's like asking a common man to make a miracle happen as if he were a god.) they have they doughiest, yet flakiest croissants. And OH! The cannollis!!! The pizza is nice and is the price. It's nice to see that this place is always busy. It's great. It should be. You should come here and order brunch with a friend and sit out on the sidewalk in the sun. I am going to eat most of my meals here on the weekends.

They take forever to serve their customers, so people are forced to wait. It is amazing, and an inspirational story in some ways, that people who are so crap at hospitality have somehow managed to not only survive but get rich. The owners have bought up a bunch of local real estate and are trying to build a monstrosity of a development but are being fought by locals due to its inappropriate design. Therein lies a clue: They're not nice/good people, they're greedy and are just in it for the money. And that's why what they do makes sense: a range of low quality provodore produce, cheap and ordinary coffees, day old pastries. All overpriced - because you don't have a choice. Good on them, but for gods sake don't encourage this behaviour or expect any semblance of Melbournes famous hospitality in this venue. Do yourselves a favour and go to Little Deer Tracks at the train tracks end of O'Shea St, or anywhere else. These people are just bad at their jobs and shouldn't be encouraged.

I recommend the dusted sponge cake. Highly recommend actually…read more It is a simple, light sponge. Filled with cream and a little strawberry jam. Dusted with icing sugar. This for only $7. Someone from work shared with me. Now I'm sharing with you. If you like cake and appreciate simple and yum things ... TRY THIS CAKE. The shop looks very dated and old school and I like that. I haven't tried anything else here as yet. But I will keep coming back for the dusted sponge!

The first time $8 for a sandwich we were told was $6, the second time we were charged $15.60 for two vegetarian pies when the sign says they are $6.80 each making the total $13.60 and today we were overcharged $2 AGAIN on a donut. The same woman has overcharged us each time, short blond hair in her 60's who actually spends most of her time leaning against the counter talking to customers she obviously knows rather than actually working. Today she stood and continued her conversation with one man for around 5 minutes while we waited. We also noted that she handed him his food but he did not appear to have paid??? Is that how it works, someone she knows is given products while other customers are overcharged to make up the shortfall? We said nothing the first couple of times thinking it was a small amount and possibly a genuine mistake in a busy business but then again today we realise this is intentional. This is a very busy business, if they serve 100 customers per day and add on $2 each that's an extra $200 in clear profit per day, 5 days a week that's an extra $1000, per month $4000 and in a year $48 000. Most people won't notice a small extra charge or when walking off just let it go, but this business is ripping people off. Possibly a case for notifying Consumer Affairs. Treat your customers with respect or you will lose them.

I notice that they are keeping up with trends and now have a selection of macaroons. They also have large traditional square Italian pizza slices, I haven't tried these - I suppose they will reheat them in the oven. You can have coffee and cake at the shop. There is a couple of tables and chairs in this tiled cake shop and with the large windows it would be good for people watching as the cake shop is on the corner of Sydney Road and Munro Street.

"...FABULOUS AUTHENTIC ITALIAN PASTICCERIA..."…read more I don't get to Sydney Road often, but when I do...like today...I must get cakes at TRIVELLI PASTICCERIA in Coburg.... There are 3 MUST HAVES..!! 1. Ricotta Pasticci - beautiful creamy ricotta filling inside a multi-layered crisp light pastry dusted with icing sugar 2. Cannoli - we love the custard filled ones - especially the vanilla custard ones - and the shells are always fresh, and always crisp 3. Gemelli - large Italian ring doughnuts - these are just so unbelievably good - they're fried in an olive oil blend and lightly sugared - they have a wonderful texture, fabulous aroma and gorgeous flavour - just so delicious, both warm and cold. Anyway the cakes here are not a cheap eat..they're quite special..and their price reflects this..today I bought 4 gemelli, 8 canolli and 2 pasticci - $50 exactly..but WOW..worth every single cent.. It's an old-fashioned..traditional type Italian cake shop..no coffees made here..it has always solely existed on the quality of it's wares..that's certainly saying something....!! Visited on the afternoon of Sunday 20/09/2015 for cakes to take home.

I have bought biscotti to take home by the gram and I've also ordered a large decorated cake for a party from here. The cream cakes are the kind of cakes that are almost as delicious to look at as to eat, layers of sponge cake, filled with cream and decorated with strawberries. It is difficult to make up my mind with such a selection of cakes which one to have; the staff are used to people taking their time. I decide that as I haven't had any baklava for a long time, I'll have a large log of the baklava. It turns out that "catching up for a coffee" was simply a colloquialism and neither of us actually drinks coffee. They don't do chai latte and we both order hot chocolates instead - these are indifferent unlike the excellent cakes. With these cakes to look and Peter's philosophical conversation I don't care if the décor is all very clean, modern and bit Spartan. It is the conversation and a tasty bite that we are after.

We ordered two lattes, a hot chocolate and a baby chino - for the little one. And an assortment of sweets. The barista spotted my little one finishing off a sticky bun from Brumby's and refused to serve us. What a downer! We walked out in disgust, I'm sure the latte and sweets are probably five star- not so sure about customer service!

Basic 101 neighborhood bakery decor. But all immaculate kept. Rather impressive. I felt almost as if I could have walked into the display cabinet and discovered the likes of Donna Hay stylin' away in here. The high level of quality control really shines through here. All the tasty baked goods looked near perfect, yet still a little rough. This just emphasised the hard work that the bakers here go to. No mass produced cookies or doughnuts here. We dropped by on a Sunday morning and by 10am they had run out of croissants. Testament to how popular this little spot is. As we where heading out road tripping a few snacks were needed. The top prize goes to the smiley face cookies that I snuck in. Delicate shortbread cookies, with a sweet icing top and jam filling. Bring on the flood of child hood memories. One star was lost for the snooty staff. So I may not look like a soccer mum but hey I deserve some respect for not breeding at such a young age. The staff were not helpful at all. No suggestions, no can I help you? Nothing past the initial walk in HI. In all honesty the cookies was so cookie-licous that I'll be back.
