This is a super funky, fun store with hardwood floors from its days as a grocery store 100 or so years ago. On one side: books books books! Kids books, kids games,adult books, local books. On the other side: lotions, soaps, notecards, candy, purses, jewelry. There were very mouthy things like "hand shit" for lotions and raunchy cards. My 13-year-old daughter bought a cell phone case for her iPhone 7 with a little glittery cactuses. My 10-year-old son bought a licorice smoking pipe! Free parking in back. read more

This place is always fun to peek into and browse, with books and crafts and cards and candles and beauty products and other quirky things. It's a locally-owned gem and fills the much-needed vacuum of an independent bookstore in downtown. It's a perfect place to find a gift for someone or a treat for yourself. You can always find a sassy birthday card or a cookbook by a local author here. And don't miss the wooden clearance shelf near the back, it pretty much always has good finds at steep discounts. I love Zandbroz! If you are looking for items for your own home or gift ideas, Zandbroz has a wonderfull assortment of items to choose from! Between vases and home nick-nacks to fun kitchen utensils, because every kitchen needs a guitar shaped spatula! The assortment of cards is funny and creative, along with papers to choose for for wrapping or decorating. Personnaly, my favorite are is the jewelry counter. Another wonderful Fargo small business! One has to stop in and visit this store; and if you're a local you'll want to frequent it often. It's the ONLY place I go now to buy greeting cards. Their selection of original and creative cards beats the socks off of big box store's selections! They're touching, cheeky, and hilarious. Other than cards, they also have a wide selection of other gifts and collectables. A good number of books for being a local book seller and not a "Barnes and Noble" type store. They do have a big selection of local authors and local topic books to chose from. Other items include stationary, journals, accessories, bags, and housewares. All of which are unique and things that you can't really find in other stores. So, take a walk to the northern edge of downtown Broadway and visit Zandbroz ... either for the first time or the 100th time! You won't regret it! read more

God, I love this store. It is perfect retail therapy as a mix of curated books, stationary, food items, kitchen stuff, plus enough lotions and candles to get a quick gift for a friend. I come here every other week and it is always updated and fresh, and you might get to play with their dog while you visit. read more

No doubt this is a cool store. The products. The setting. All cool. What I don't understand is how someone can enter this store, spend time in this store, and be completely ignored by all staff. No one even looked at me. Even when there are hardly any customers (there may have been one other person last time I was there). I didn't get a "hi," "hello," or "how do you do?" Someone was at the register very engrossed in computer work, and I know there is more to running a store than serving customers. But without your customers, what else is there? Maybe the other reviewers don't care about customer service. But I do. And it's not hard. Here's a script, "Hello! How are you today? Let me know if you need any help." Tah dah! read more

Zandbroz is an incredible downtown staple. The shop is in an old downtown grocery store which is the perfect setting for all of their charming goods and gifts. My favorite thing is to read all of the funny cards until I'm laughing out loud. Don't miss the vintage items in the back of the store and the unique jewelry in the cases. read more

I'll take one of everything, and they have damn near everything. The book selection runs from the weird to the rare and in the back room they're even rarer. you'll think you've hit a time warp from the 60's. In the kitchen area I found a picnic table bench cover. Everything is just beautiful. I got very overwhelmed. I picked up some much needed pure maple syrup from Maine. They carry up to date products and brands, yet it all feels so nostalgic.Nothing is useless junk. Here you have everything you need, and don't need, and don't care, you'll want it anyway. read more

Haven't been here in more than a couple of years and I am VERY glad it still exists. I love the things they have, from the knick knacks to the book selection to the music selection of the "what the heck is this" selection. The only thing that brought Zandbroz down from its 5th star in my eyes is the loss of the 1950's drug store soda fountain in back. I count myself lucky to have been able to bring all three of my children there in their youth to have a seltzer/soda pop and a truly old-fashioned malted, as well as to enable my mother to have a Chocolate Coke (ugh!) 50 years after her last one in her youth. I only wish we could continue to enjoy that cool delciousness and all the memories they would now evoke. read more

This is a great little independent bookstore downtown. I like it for postcards, birthday cards, and great coffee table books. There are interesting toys for kids (and grown-up kids) and some housewares things. I've never seen anyone in the back section with the soda fountain. I have always wondered what happens back there! If you're looking to kill a couple hours downtown, this place will occupy your interests. It's a great place to find small, unique gifts and cards. read more

Cute little niche store tucked on the north end of Broadway, the heart of downtown Fargo. They have a lot of cool stuff little stuff - a very artsy place. Their books and vintage toy collection are great and they have wonderful unique gifts that won't break the bank but offer a sense of being original and creative. They even carry a lot of local and regional products that can be harder to find sometimes (art, jewelry, honey, jams, ceramics, etc.) The old fashion malt shop in the back (Dakota Soda?) is pretty good too. The sandwiches are not that great, but for a quick treat it definitely makes the cut. One of the semi-hidden treasures in the area (since everyone seems to flock to the mall and not old downtown). read more

When I'm traveling, I look for a few things in a town that are the keys to making it seem livable to me. One is Thai food; another is a movie theater showing independent/foreign/art releases. The other is a high quality independent bookstore. When my husband and I walked into Zandbroz, we knew that criteria had been met. This shop has an excellent collection of books to meet the needs of the general reader, but an even better collection of books that you aren't as likely to find at your local Barnes & Noble, and aren't as likely to browse upon on Amazon. They have beautiful art books, a big section on local history, and shelves and shelves to appeal to those of us who buy into the Eggers/McSweeney's aesthetic and that cadre of writers. The other half of the store is a beautifully curated collection of gifts, cards, papergoods, and cute kitchen goods, every bit as good as any similar shop I've been into in just about any part of the country. The friendly, funny guy who rang us up sweetened the deal. I know if I lived in Fargo I'd be here at least every week or two to pick up bits and pieces for myself and for gifts for friends and family, and definitely wouldn't buy books anywhere else. read more

I literally spend hours in here each time i make a trip to fargo. I love that you can get anything from postcards to books, to fun and original kids toys, local jewelry and clothing accessories, beauty products, funky dishes and pillows, lovely paper for wrapping gifts, and novelties, among other things!! plan to browse for a good little long time, and really get a grasp on the merch from the local artists. Had to order an out of print book for my mother as a gift when I moved to Fargo a while back. The folks at Zandbroz were really helpful and extremely nice in helping me get what I wanted when I ordered in timely fashion. This is a fun little throw back store full of great finds. It reminds me of an old drugstore/bookstore in my home town that's been closed for years. Glad to have this little place to remind me of home from time to time. While, yes this is a great "bookstore" I really consider it to be more of a variety store, like they say, instead. Books, sadly, aren't a bread and butter sort of business for brick and mortar stores now days and thankfully Zandbroz understands that and offers more than hard to find books. Think "gift shoppe with an edge". Also, this is the only place I can find my current perfume in stock without having to order it online. So happy to give my money to a local shop than a faceless entity online. So yeah it's a pricey place, but well worth the investment in shopping here to keep places like this thriving and humming in small towns like Fargo. read more

I was interviewing for a job in Fargo, so of course I had to check out the bookstores. There's a Barnes and Noble down in South Fargo, but Zandbroz is the cute independent store in downtown, and I vastly preferred it to B&N. It has a nice selection of books, including some signed editions. They also have a little bit of everything when it comes to gifts - pottery, bookmarks, postcards, greeting cards, scarves, etc. It's a bit pricey (I spent $1.50 for a postcard), but I can't imagine that any other place in Fargo has some of the things that Zandbroz Variety has. The whole store has a quirky vibe to it. It's also fairly easy to miss from the street; I think I passed it twice before I figured out where it was. Just look for the big FARGO light beside the building. If I end up moving to Fargo, I could definitely see myself spending many hours here. read more

Zandbroz is a store that I really should spend more time in, but at the same time, I've found I usually only make it there to get gifts for others. Part of the store contains books, and I must say, the book selection here is very good; a wide range of genres, at least as wide as any chain bookstore (although the actual amount is fewer, I concede). The giftshop part of the store is tougher to describe, but there is just so much that one really has to go there to get a look. Also, at the back of the store is a coffee shop (which also specializes in soups, sandwiches, and ice cream). In the back there is a coffee shop with italian sodas, drinks, and smaller food items. This place has a ton of beautiful nicnacks, unique china, classic and edgy stationary.
