Looking for a new good coffee place in Crows Nest I wondered down Clark Street and saw a line of people waiting outside a tiny little coffee bar. There it was - my next caffeine hit.
Whilst there were about 5 people waiting for their take away coffee I was the only one waiting to order so I stepped on up. Zar (who I later found out is the owner) served me. She asked me what I'd like and I answered pretty quickly with my standard soy mocha. "Anything else?" she asked. "No thanks". Pretty standard exchange. The thing is she was really abrupt, impatient almost. I felt rushed and like I was in the way. Not a bit deal - she was busy perhaps, had a show to run and all that jazz. I was taken aback a bit and didn't feel the friendly vibe you get in other independently owned cafes in the hood... until ten minutes later when I was the only one in the cafe.
My advice - know what you want to order before you get to the counter. The drill is it's quick service and apparently the customers need to play the game and order quick too.
The coffee is really good but not cheap. I paid $4.50 for a soy mocha and I can get a better one for $3.50 down the road. The chocolate in the mocha isn't pure but it's better than most cafes that use really cheap sugary stuff.
They also sell foccacias, wraps, bottled juice and a few other breakfast items.
There are only two, two seated tables outside so more of a take away joint than a sit down. Latest paper, Marie Claire and Vogue to read if you do sit down. read more
