Found my New Year Eve's Sequin Dress
    Pamela L.

I remember grabbing my first fashion magazine when I was 12, flipping through Seventeen Magazine with Phoebe Cates on the cover. It was just the start of my love for fashion. Growing up, I was always more of a trend follower and my little sister has always been more into classic pieces. Even though we were different in the way we dressed, we often shared our clothes to expand our wardrobe. Fashion is fun, it's a great way to express who you are. Whether you're quirky, unique or sporty, there is no right or wrong. Wear what makes you feel good and your confidence will show through. This is why I love shopping at Zara. Season after season they always wow me with their new collection. Animal prints, orange/brown color items, and sequins, are in this year and Zara has it covered. I would recommend that you check out their website, their selection is much bigger. I will usually order a few pieces and have them shipped to the store. They are nice enough to let me open the package in the dressing room to try. This way, if I don't like it, I can just return it right then and there. My favorite items from Zara are their bodysuits. It's easy to layer with and they make them well. I own a lot of it. I also love their button down shirts, I think it drapes beautifully on a woman's body. Their outerwear of faux leather jackets and wool coats are stylish and affordable. They have a TFR line that seems to cater to younger women. I usually get their T-shirts from this line. My son grew up wearing Zara from the Kids department. Super cute stuff. Let's just say he dressed better than his mom sometimes in his cute leather jackets. I think the men's department is a bit too trendy for older gentlemen but hey, maybe some men can pull it off. Sequins are super hot this fall/winter. I will be attending my cousin's New Year Eve wedding this year. The bride has requested that all her female guests wear a sequin dress. Zara has plenty to choose from.

Aside from this being low end stuff that you'd be better off just buying decent stuff from a real store, you need to be aware of their sketchy return policy. Like I said, they refused to take back 2 bowties, within one hour of purchase, with a receipt. The guy in the store tells me that he cannot take back "small items." It's our return policy. He refers me to the return policy above the register, where it says nothing of the sort. I needed 2 bow ties AND cummerbunds for a black tie affair. Much of the store is dedicated to this low end formal wear, but they of course, do not have 2 cummerbunds. So I settled for the 2 bowties. I, of course, found what I needed in another store. So I thought, while I'm still in the mall I'll just return these. Now I get it that people probably try to scam them returning stuff after wearing them once. But, this was an hour later...and they didn't actually have what I needed to begin with. Mind you, I told the guy that I had purchased 2 tuxedos and an additional tuxedo jacket for myself and family members last year. Now this low-end stuff is cheap, so I got all of that for $380, plus we had to have the pants tailored, so about a total of $460. I'm just starting to get into owning formal wear and I have found a lot of use for this stuff recently. So, I'm sure I would have been back for another cheap jacket, or whatever. Overall, the stuff is low-end and cheap. You get what you pay for. I'd advise anyone to go to a REAL store and stay away from these cheap ghetto stores that will nickel and dime you and don't have any clue what customer service is, how to keep a customer, or just do what's right in business.

I am extremely disappointed by the treatment my husband received during what should have been a simple return. We came in to return an online order--shoes and suspenders that were neatly packed and clearly unworn. Within seconds, the associate handling the return began treating the items with visible disgust, dumping everything out of the box carelessly, and handling them as if they were dirty. Before even properly inspecting the shoes, she immediately accused my husband of wearing them. For clarity: the shoes were tried on briefly at home and never worn outside. There were no signs of wear, creasing, or damage--because they were, in fact, unworn. What made this experience even worse was the tone. The interaction was not neutral or professional--it was accusatory from the start. Another employee, who was in the middle of assisting a different customer on the phone, felt the need to interject and double down on the accusation without any basis. Had this been approached respectfully, my husband would have been more than willing to have a calm conversation. Instead, he was met with immediate suspicion and hostility. It's difficult to ignore the role that bias may have played here--my husband, an Asian man dressed casually in a hoodie and hat, was treated as though he was trying to deceive the store. This was not just poor customer service--it was disrespectful and unacceptable. No customer should be made to feel judged, profiled, or accused without cause. We expected basic professionalism and left feeling frustrated and disrespected. I sincerely hope management takes this seriously and addresses both the behavior and the underlying bias that led to this experience.

This is a brand I love and have always trusted. The employee refused to look up my purchase despite it being accessible through my account, contradicting Mango's own written return policy. I called customer service myself and had my receipt in 5 minutes. I came back with my receipt and original card. Staff stalled and then falsely claimed I did not have my original card, which was never even asked about to begin with and was in my hand the entire time. The key holder.. Sidra then became aggressive, cursing at me and calling me "ghetto" and "a little girl." When she still couldn't justify refusing my return, she called mall security and the police and specifically requested they bring ICE, not because I was a threat, but to intimidate me into leaving so she wouldn't have to do her job. I had everything needed to process this return. It is extremely disappointing that a brand of this caliber has someone representing them with absolutely no customer service skills and such disregard for the people who keep this brand going. This was racial profiling and deliberate intimidation and it is unacceptable

The store's layout used to be an even 50-50 split between men's and women's apparel. The men's section here has always been limited compared to the selection at larger BR stores (e.g. North Brunswick, Bridgewater, Short Hills) especially in terms of suit sizing, but over the past decade the women's section has been gradually displacing the men's section, which now occupies less than 1/4 of this store's shelf space. I'm guessing this is due to shifts in the dying demographic of shoppers who still shop for clothes via brick-and-mortar. Store associates here have always been helpful (probably because they're usually not teenagers), and like at other BR locations the cashier is located in the middle of the store. How this BR store has managed to stay afloat for this long is a complete enigma, considering that all of its neighbors on the second floor crumbled (even before the pandemic) and have since been replaced by off-off-off brand retailers, a slime factory, and a wine & paint studio. Even the Gap store here didn't survive. This particular wing of Menlo Park Mall on the second level has historically been very prone to turnover, so I'd keep an eye out for any liquidation announcements in the near future.

I wandered in to look around before the friendly store associate told me about a spin-the-wheel opening promotion that offers a random discount, with a minimum of 10% off. The shelves are stocked with a lot of high-quality collectible merchandise and wearables from popular manga and anime franchises. The right wall has an impressive collection of Studio Ghibli backpacks and sweatshirts which I have never seen in a brick-and-mortar setting. Most of the in-store inventory seems to be what you would find in a collectibles boutique rather than in a toy store or a GameStop (no Funko Pops here lol). Looking at the prices, this BoxLunch's target clientele appears to be significantly older and wealthier than the penniless high schoolers that Menlo Mall is known to attract. BoxLunch claims to donate $10 of every clothing purchase to charity, which partially explains the higher-than-average markup. Menlo Park Mall already has at least four other stores that sell and/or specialize in pop culture collectibles, so seeing another one here is kind of surprising (even more so when you consider how both shopping malls and brick-and-mortar retail are in steep decline). The interior decor is slightly classier than say, the tweeny interior of Hot Topic, but I'd give this location a single-term lease at most before it gets replaced with something else. https://www.simon.com/mall/menlo-park-mall/stores/boxlunch
