Firstly, stepping into the restaurant, the staff are warm, attentive and treat you like friends/family. Even on my first visit here, they were hospitable and friendly. They've got terrific memories, and know you by the time you make your second visit (and believe me, you will). They really take the time to go over the specials, and answer any questions you have regarding the menu. Secondly, the decor. Yes, it's a small restaurant, but it gives it a homely feel and it's cozy on wintery nights, and open on summer nights with the big sliding French doors. It can get noisy, but not overwhelmingly so. Parking is easy; there's usually a space right outside. But I'd never come here without making a reservation first, or you could be disappointed. Thirdly, the food. It is DELICIOUS. I've never, ever had a problem with the food. It comes as you order it (i.e.. if you make any amendments, they honour it and are very obliging. Everything comes as you'd imagine; hot and as if it were homemade. It's fresh and unique. The special board is always changing and there's plenty of variety. It may be a teeny bit pricey for some, but to me, it's worth every penny. Fatto is the first restaurant you encounter on the right as you cross the bridge from the city. It's a place you absolutely need to go to. We were lucky enough to try the tasting menu today. It's an incredibly generous range of food. The dishes were absolutely delicious. Even the bread we started with was superb, both seeded and plain. Beautifully fresh and wholesome, these were the best starter breads I have had for quite some time. The first dishes to come out were the antipasti - kingfish tartare, prosciutto and wagyu carpaccio. We thought these were just excellent. The kingfish was our favourite but we also admired the carpaccio very much not just for the lovely taste but that it looked a bit like a Jackson Pollock work (I'm a big Pollock fan). Next we're into the small dishes and these were beautiful too. We adored the spaghettini with spanner crab, lemon and chilli, it was just delicious. Delicate and carefully flavoured, it is a truly wonderful dish. The salad was lovely too. Rocket, Parmesan and pink grapefruit. It's a terrific and refreshing little salad. We had the medium dishes to finish and we loved these too. The sirloin was cooked wonderfully and was very tasty. I actually got a little anxious finishing it knowing there was no more to come. I was enjoying it that much. The chips with house seasoning and aoli were also very pleasant to finish with. I forgot to mention our drinks. We'd started with an extremely well made Aperol spritz. I could offer no greater praise than it seemed as good as ones I've had overseas. It was a cracker. Our wine to accompany the meal was a Pizzini Sangiovese Shiraz. Great winery. Lovely wine. Our two servers were lovely today. Not just for us either. Watching them serve others in the room you could tell they enjoyed their work and were very good at their craft. To conclude, I'll never doubt Southbank again. This is a very good restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and wine here. We were very surprised at the quality and range. Had a chai seed with yogurt breakkie, something that one will never find in any cafes in Singapore. Healthy and fresh, it was nice to have some quiet time chilling while enjoying my breakfast.
