It is open only for a certain number of days a week- make sure you check to make sure that it is open before travelling there. The building itself is a converted post office with pretty architecture - it spans two floors with a few rooms on each floor, as well as a gift shop on the first floor. It took about an hour to finish touring the museum. The docent was knowledgeable and enthusiastic and had good recommendations about how to explore the place. The most fascinating aspect of the museum was how it catalogued the history of Holland, from the indigenous people who called it their home for thousands of years, to the more recent settlers from South East Asia and Latin America. Of course, there is also a lot of information about Dutch migration to the city as well as exhibits from that time. I highly recommend a visit to this museum even if you are not a "museum person." The entrance fee is low, with special discounts for students and educators, and the museum is small enough that it is possible to complete a relatively thorough exploration within an hour and a half. It's also great for kids - there are lots of Wizard of Oz fun facts plastered on the walls. Overall, a must see if you are in Holland!

We were there at least two hours and they didn't want to leave. This is a great place for kids to use their imaginations and creativity. So many cute exhibits for them to pretend play, learn about science, experiment, build, etc. My 5 year old loved the Vet station, he spent a ton of time there. The sensory play area is fun! My 8 yo loved the ping pong ball bike and the area with all the cushions to build. He also really loved the Snap Circuits they had. There is a ton to do! Really cute! It is nice that it wasn't too crowded, but they still had a decent group of kids. It looks like they have a party room too to host events. A great spot!

The submarine was very cool and looked fairly untouched! I would have liked to have seen the second deck where the periscope is. The museum balanced information on WW2 as well as the progression of submarine technology (all the way from da Vinci). As someone who is interested in WWII, I did notice that the timeline regarding Pearl Harbor did miss some vital information. You need 3-4 hours to thoroughly enjoy the museum.

The displays and different installations were just long enough to get a better understanding of the subject, but not so long and detailed that it was overwhelming. I particularly liked the baseball collection display. Upon buying my ticket, I was asked if I also wanted a ticket to the carousel or the planetarium. I decided to do both. The carousel was fun, but I think I could have probably skipped it. The planetarium was really cool. It was kind of a "choose your own adventure" as we hopped around via audience input. All in all, a fun way to spend a couple hours and very family friendly.

There are fewer barriers, so visitors can get much closer to the aircraft. The enormous size of the F-14 is especially impressive when compared with the F-18 or older A-4. One volunteer shared some negative comments about museum leadership and mentioned that another volunteer had sprayed cleaning chemicals inside the F-117A bomb bay door, which reportedly smeared some of the signatures preserved there. This felt more like an internal museum matter than part of the visitor experience. The sci-fi and Alien exhibits also seemed somewhat separate from the museum's core aviation focus. Overall, the aircraft collection is excellent. Seeing the F-117A was a major highlight, and being able to walk right up to the very rare SR-71B made the visit especially worthwhile.

Entry to the Frederik Meijer Gardens was $25 for adults which allows you to see the outdoor Chihuly exhibits and $9 to view the indoor Radiant Forms. It was a beautiful sunny day and 72 degrees. The outdoor grounds have partial shade. With the extensive walking and sunshine it can get warm. There are water stations if you have a water bottle. I recommend bringing a water bottle to stay hydrated. They have plenty of free parking on site and it is easy to enter and exit. Please allow at least a half of a day to see everything if you walk fast. They also have a hop on hop off tram at the outdoor grounds for an additional $9.

Since I was last there, the Japanese gardens have been improved, and an ice cream shop (Hudsonville and Love's) has been added near the children's area. Kids can play on things or roll down hills of grass. In 2026 there's an incredible exhibit of Dale Chihuly glass sculptures. Many are installed outdoors and you can discover them wandering around. The indoor exhibit (extra cost) showcases some of his most famous and star-making works. Gorgeous.

There is also a carousel (only for children), and an organ (with periodic demonstrations). The windmill was imported several decades ago from the Netherlands - the history was narrated to us by a staff member in a Dutch costume. She was exceptionally friendly and answered our questions with wit and humour. The mechanics of the windmill were fascinating, and one could go up five storeys (each floor had its own equipment and explanations), though not right up to the top. The windmill is surrounded by beautiful gardens with a variety of flowers. It was fun to stroll around the gardens and visit the gift shop. The blue and white jewellery at the gift shop was particularly stunning. There is also free cheese available- some of the varieties were quite unusual. Four stars because while the windmill itself was interesting and the gardens lovely, there is nothing much to really do. Overall a pleasant experience but not sure if I will visit again.

The pond and walkways were so nice. You can walk all the way around the island if you like. The small bridge was a perfect spot for photos. Of course the main attraction is the windmill. The ladies working the bottom were so sweet and friendly. We walked up to the top. Each floor had something to offer. Once at the top, we went out on the balcony to enjoy a gorgeous view. Our last stop was the huge musical machine. It added such whimsy. We really enjoyed our visit.
