We could have realistically spent about 6 hours in here. It was a rainy day and my son loved it. We had booked our reservation in advance on the website as I heard some days sell out in advance. Sometimes the parking lot is closed so be prepared to get there early in the event you have to park elsewhere. They had a giant water table of Lake Michigan my son loved. Everything was so well done, I was so impressed. The best age range is probable 1-4. My son was almost 2 when we went and he played with everything. This will be a most do for us anytime we are in the area.

Forever the go to place downtown for kids on a day indoors just feels like the best idea.  Whether it's hot, cold, windy or rainy you can depend on Curious Kids Museum to entertain the hyperactive toddlers, aka tiny humans with more energy than the enrgizer bunny. Prices aren't bad and the staff is friendly.  Some of the areas are a bit on the older side but the age of the stuff doesn't stop it from being fun for the kids.  I loved coming here as a child and am so glad I have a kid in my life that I can bring here to create great memories with. Everyones favorite part is probably the face painting.  Always a must when at CKM.  I don't think anyone has left there without something drawn with facepaint on them. Just an all around great place.

My kids grew up going here quite often and we brought my granddaughter - fun to see another generation enjoying it. The day that we went there were timed entry slots, maybe to keep it from getting too crowded because of COVID. I remember my kids playing here for hours so I was worried the 90 minutes would be too little time. However, for my six year old granddaughter it was just right. Both my kids remarked that it doesn't have as much as it did years ago. They missed the pirate ship, step-on piano, and the black light room. A great way to spend a couple of hours with young kids.

Let me begin with a disclaimer: I had a splitting headache the day my daughter decided to come to this museum. So I got a $6 Breve from Cafe Tosi and figured I would at least enjoy sipping my coffee while I followed her around this place. Wrong. It wasn't until after I purchased our tickets that the lady at the front desk told me I would have to throw away my coffee before entering. Wait, what? The place is full of snot nosed kids, half of which are likely running around with diapers full of piss... But a 30 year old woman can't be trusted to carry around a to go coffee cup? Whatever. So that set the tone for my experience... Which wasn't awesome. The place was full of helicopter parents hovering over their children which annoys me to no end, although that isn't the museums fault I suppose. However, I did witness a staff member on more than one occasion demand that a parent watch their child more closely. The kid wasn't causing any problems or presenting a danger to himself or anyone else. But whatever. I was impressed at all of the things there was to do there. A face painting station was set up for kids to paint their own faces (or their parents), and my daughter liked that. They had several well thought out exhibits that Ellie enjoyed. In general though, the place was a madhouse. Everything felt somewhat chaotic and dirty. I was really happy to get out of there (maybe because I got another coffee). That afternoon we did go to the museum that's by the carousel and my daughter (and I) enjoyed that so much more. She loved playing in the water tables and in the dance room with the projector. This place was cleaner and less crazy. All of the staff members were pleasant (probably because I didn't try bringing in a forbidden beverage). Overall, worth the money. Take some Xanax before you go if you are easily annoyed. My kid mostly liked it though, so I guess that's all that matters!

So amazing! They encourage the kids to touch everything and have fun and learn! Super clean and tidy too! I could see the staff running around disinfecting everything and cleaning up toys constantly, but didn't get in your face about it. My 2 year old had a blast! We're definitely gonna be coming back soon!

This is a small little museum that is perfect for children 5 and younger. There are lots of dress up and imagination play. It's definitely on the older side. That being said the price was reasonable and it kept my four year old busy for several hours. I think it's definitely worth checking out if your in the area.

If your kiddos like to have fun and explore you need to visit the Grand Rapids Children's Museum. They have exhibits that change often that include local or even trending kids shows! The museum has two floors and has an elevator. They have an array of learning and interactive opportunities. You can find a list of days and times on their website! When we were there we got a chance to learn about music and the kids got to play some instruments. The museum is very inclusive and friendly! They offer sensory kits at the front desk if needed too! According to their website the "kits include noise reduction headphones, a weighted vest and suspenders, emotion recognition flashcards..." All the team members we have encountered have been kind and helpful! My only comment of suggestion would be for a little more adult seating in some of the "middle sections" of the museum. There are a few spots all along the walls but not much towards the middle. I understand it creates more opportunities for grownups to get involved with the kids too but for those of us with disabilities that need a minute to catch our breath it was difficult to find a spot close to where my kids were. Lots of interactive play and many memories made here! I highly suggest visiting. The rate to visit is $12 per person but they offer many types of discounted rates for different reasons. All rate information is available on their website. Parking can be a challenge as they do not have their own parking structure and the closest parking is side street meter parking that you can pay using the parking app. They do not validate parking.

I visited with a tween and teenager, so we were definitely a little older than the target age. That said, my children had a great time! I had to practically pull them away when it was time to leave. When we arrived, we were told to explore and "follow our hearts" around the museum. I loved that! This children's museum really encourages self-directed play, which is obvious by all of the fun, open-ended objects everywhere. You've got the giant blocks, magna-tiles, LEGO tables, pretend kitchen and house, and lots of other things. Both of my children gravitated to The Spin Zone, a three-tiered table that uses centrifugal force to power different objects. Upstairs, there's a bubble area, where you can create giant bubbles; a play house to pretend in; a train table to drive trains around; a makerspace to make stuff in; and an exhibit called Weathering Emotions, a walk-through spot where you can learn about and experience emotions. Some of these exhibits are permanent, and some are just visiting, so your visit might vary. I would say that the Grand Rapids Children's Museum is the perfect place for ages 2 to 10. Beyond that age, it's definitely fun, but it might not hold the attention of older kids. But that's OK! This children's museum is a space for the little kids, and that's perfect.

I'm from Houston, Texas and didn't like how we had to pay a non-residential entrance fee, which is more expensive. I feel like there should only be one flat fee. Also, the ticket price is so expensive, especially since we have to pay for the children AND adults. I mean, it's a children's museum so the adults HAVE to be there to accompany them. It's not like the adults come to play on their own. We come to play with the child. I just feel like adults should be free, or at least only pay like $5. On a normal day, it would not be reasonable to come here. I did see that they are hosting a Family Day when tickets are about $5 a person; that is an amazing deal and is so worth it. The hours are so short! We came on Thursday when the hours are 10-2pm. We came in at 11:30pm and I felt like we didn't have enough time! My boys wanted to play more; I wish we had come in earlier. So if you plan on going, I recommend going at 10am when they open, especially if you're going to pay full price. I didn't like how the hours are short and when it came to closing time, stations were shutting down early. At 1:45pm, the Cloud Buster exhibit was closed, which was disappointing because my boys wanted to go in there. A lot can happen in 15 minutes, so I didn't like that. The staff were all incredibly nice, sweet, and patient, though! They all kept their cool and were great at encouraging my boys, especially when climbing the Schooner. The museum reminds me of Montessori school, where it teaches independent play and discovery. I wish it included some facts and interactive play that reinforces the subject, like at a science museum. Overall, my two boys had a blast. They really enjoyed the "Play It Safe" and "Water City" exhibits. My favorite was Michael's Museum. I appreciated all the small messages of advice and reminders for parents in all play areas. It encouraged us and helped us understand the reasoning behind how children play or the purpose of the activity. From a child's perspective, this place is AMAZING, so I'm glad my boys enjoyed it.

What a special spot for kids and families!…read more While visiting family nearby, they suggested that we all take our kids to the Kohl Children's Museum for them to play and run around. (It was also a particularly good move because we would be leaving shortly thereafter on our five-hour roadtrip back home -- so great for getting out the wiggles!) This museum is one large floor filled with spaces for kids to play with. There's a play grocery, play restaurant, play doctors office, play mechanic, play water tables, play music area -- even a play bookshop. Everything the kids could touch and learn from. We easily spent a couple of hours exploring everything alongside our kiddos. The trick was keeping an eye on our kids since they were constantly running from one thing to the next. We also visited during a weekend of a freezing cold snap, which meant it was packed with families hoping to wear their kids out indoors. Even still, we were able to play with everything without a long wait. I loved seeing how thought out each area was and all the ways that the kids could interact with everything. If I lived in this area, I would definitely have a membership and visit often!

Last time I was here I was amused to see the grocery store was a Whole Foods and the sandwich shop was a Potbelly's, but I guess those sponsorships have expired and everything's kind of generic now. Kids won't care but I thought it was fun. The main draw of this place is the sheer amount of variety they have. Kids can play with toy cars, instruments, water, trains. They can paint, build things, read. They can pretend to be a vet, build a house, grocery shop, run a sandwich shop (oh I guess I mentioned those). There's a whole bunch of little science-y things, and some areas that rotate periodically. Toddlers and young kiddos have a blast, but I feel it'd be hard to keep older kids engaged. It also feels pretty pricy, especially charging parents, though I didn't know you could save a couple bucks buying online ahead of time. Parking is mostly easy but it is a popular place so be prepared to have to do some conflict resolution at times.
