Went with a friend who had a Groupon to visit (with the Groupon deal, not expensive, otherwise this…read moreplace can be a bit pricey). Located in Tour&Taxis, nicely decorated and relaxing feel--although this is my first Hammam, it had a more authentic feel according to what others told me traditional Hammams are like. Women and men have strictly separate visits/times (as this place is mostly frequented by Middle Eastern women/men) so it makes for a more comfortable atmosphere being around women. People tend to go in groups, whether with friends or family members. You are able to go nude or wear a swimsuit. Towels, slippers and bath robe are provided/included in the price.
Must speak French, very little/no knowledge of English or Dutch (some, those doing the gommage don't speak much French either) but this is not a problem as you are there to enjoy yourself and have little interaction with those working there.
I would definitely recommend the gommage, which is a sticky scrub you put on your body and exfoliating glove is needed too. After you put the sticky scrub all over your body you are basically scrubbed to death with your glove by a woman, which removes all your dead skin (disgusting to see all the dead skin you have on your body!). It hurts a bit when being done, but my skin felt so nice after!
Sauna and hot room are also in the spa. I enjoyed having the sauna offered as a dry, hot place after being in the wet rooms most of the time. I would also recommend having a pot of sweet Morrocan tea afterwards as there is a nice area where you can sit (and eat too) to enjoy your drink, which consists mostly of soft couches.
One criticism: in my experience the customer service wasn't that great as they forgot to give us the towels, robe, slippers so we were waiting around for them to be taken to us, when in the end, we went back to the front desk to get them. Also, after paying for my glove and gommage scrub, they forgot to provide this to me as well. This was a bit annoying but in the end not a problem or anything that ruined the experience.
Would recommend as a half-day, day getaway in Brussels!
