I had a great worship experience to Zion this morning. This was my first time attending one of their worship services. The dress is very casual. Services are a 8am, 9:30am and 11am. I felt a little rushed and wanted more time. Zion is modern; they leverages technology - web casts, announcement videos, etc. Praise and worship music is contemporary. Pastor Keith Battle delivered a powerful bible-based message. I found him relatable with a solid teaching style. I left with a page full of notes. read more

To me, it was church-lite. As far as worship services go, this one is A-ok. I could tell they were not trying to say "Jesus" or "God" or read directly from God's Inerrant Word too much because they weren't trying to scare off anyone who is unchurched and might be converted. Quite frankly, as a born-and-raised Methodist, I was slightly put-off by this 'loosey-goosey' church service. They never read the scripture lesson. It wasn't even listed on the bulletin, although some scripture references were flashed on the jumbo-tron during the 'message' (which was given by Pastor Marshall, a really young, hip fellow who appeared on stage after a long darkness, and just started talking about stress). They never had a responsive reading ***of the Bible***. They didn't play any standard-bearer religious music that lets you know you are in a hallowed place, the Lord's holy temple v(like the _Gloria Patri_ or the _Doxology_). For all I knew, I was at a concert. Especially with the Robin Thicke/Justin Timberlake look-alike fellow onstage belting out quasi inspirational ballads. But they did take up an offering. :-) But that is what I get and must accept during my summer of visiting around services. Church lite. Ha ha. We'll see what I get next Sunday. read more

Goodmorning, my name is Shakita Smith. I am a member of the nearby community. I attended your church on December 9,2023 to pick up my things from my Toys for Tots sign up. I signed up my 3 children through the toys for tots site and your church was my designated pick up location. Upon arrival with my children, I was met outside by church staff that asked for my name and children ages. I was told by the staff that there were no gifts available for my children, but my 9 year old can take home a gift from the 8 year old category. This was never my experience in my 13 years with toys for tots. All of my children always received a few gifts each in a black bag from toys for tots that was labeled with my family name and ages. Instead I received one gift in a while trash bag for all of my children to share. I was confused because I have never experienced this. As I began to look around, other families were being turned away. I began to also notice that the church staff were hurrying to their vehicles with tons of bags of gifts also in white bags and some in black. I heard one church member say " I think I forgot to put something in the bag for such and such" as she was loading a man's car with bags. She hid behind a tree and continued talking to the man once she realized that I was looking. I am feeling saddened and hurt behind this because I am a single mother trying to make this Christmas holiday a happy one for my babies. I too attend church, and I've never witnessed this act of theft from a church before. So many families were affected by this. I would like to follow up with the pastor regarding this matter to see how I can be compensated for this Christmas holiday for my three children. I think I found our new church home!! I started at FBCG when there was only the campus on Brightseat Rd. Then we moved to the Watkins Park location. I'm learning that I prefer the smaller church atmosphere than the mega churches. Pastor Battle teaches the word in a way that meets everyone where they're at. His method can reach and teach anyone of any walk of life. read more

Zion Church is amazing. As someone who was raised in a different sect of Christianity, it is refreshing to go to a place that is non-denominational. Makes for a better experience. Plus they play great music. Everyone is so friendly! Once my fiancee and I moved out of PG County and became further away from the Largo campus, it was still OK. Why, you ask? Because Zion allows you to praise online! This is helpful until we get, hopefully get, a northern campus (in Jessup or Elkridge or Columbia, hint hint). A pastor from Zion will be officiating my fiancee and I's wedding. We love this place so much and couldn't asked for a better place of praise. read more

Zion Church is the best place to worship for everyone! The services are 70 minutes and the sermon notes appear on the screen along with scripture. The dress code is Come As You Are. The sermons are practicle in giving Godly insight to everyday life. I really enjoy the services. Zion Church has a young congregation with the majority of ages being between 15 and 35. There are several opportunities to grow and experience God. When Keith Battle first began preaching in the late 1980s, those who knew him would often hear him say he would never want to be a Pastor. What an awesome responsibility! Yet, apparently the saying is true, "never say never". Im the anti church, more spiritual than religious type of girl but this church was definitely for me. Real to the point and not all the frills of some churches. Clean organized and touched my spirit. Even shed a few tears. There is power in word and the focus was on that. read more

I was brought up Pentacostal/Baptist and all my years of going to church I was never engaged ot really meet God. I supposedly gave my life to Christ at the age of 12, but I didn't really begin to walk with God until age 37 when I arrived at Zion Church which challenged everything I knew about God in a completely different way. I grew up on the hymns of the church and singing the standard devotional songs. I grew up watching the pomp and stance of the Ministers as their lives were not an indication that they served God in any capacity no matter how much ministers garb they wore. I grew up noticing that the lives of people attending the worship was only reverential on Sundays and once they left the building there was no change so what they recieved was emotional and not life changing. In essence I gave no thought to my life or living a life in relationship with God once I left the building. It was at Zion church that I learned that relationship with God is not just something you do on Sunday, it is like the relationship with my mother and father, daily I spend time with him and I learned to love him more than life. Now some may say you can obtain all of this from the other modes of church and I wouldn't deny that you can, but what I will say is that making God relevant to my life, my daily living, was very important to me and as my children got older and became teenagers they were engaged and touched and transformed by what they heard and what they saw and began to live a life in relationship they cultivated on their own and now my Grandchildren are being effected as well because of how they do Extreme Church for the young. I am not saying that this place is perfect, but what I am saying is that I have been challenged in this place to go beyond what I was taught about God to find out just really who God is and enter into a relationship in a way that makes me comfortable with God, intimate with him, I want more of him, I want to be with him and my life is better because I have learned how to love him. I am grateful for Zion Church because if there was no Zion I would not be the Christian I am today, grateful and willing to serve others as Christ has served me. read more

Zion church may not be for everyone as is obvious with the mediocre review that was posted-but don't knock it! It is certainly for me-one of those that my pastor refers to as the "unchurched". Just because its unfamiliar territory does not mean that it is a bad place. I'm glad that Zion is not for those who are churched and holding on to the memories and nostalgia-the scent of frankincense and myrrh, traditional gospel hymns, 10 hour long services etc. because it might not have been a place for me to mature in my faith. Pastor Battle is practical, down to earth, and teaches in a way that reaches to those who can't recite bible verses at the drop of a dime. Here is a snapshot: 60 minute service, casual dress, focused on service to those in need not on creating a glorious shrine. Zion is "a movement, not a monument". The sense of community is like no other church that I have been to. When I leave Sunday, I am counting the minutes until the next one. Love Zion, Love Pastor Battle, he is truly a blessed man of God whose vision is to capture those who feel out of place or are left behind in some conventional churches. I really enjoy Zion services. Pastor Battle is phenomenal at teaching the word in everyday realistic terms. He is charismatic and relareable. I appreciate that you can go to church in jeans or a football jersey if you choose and no one bats an eye. I highly recommend this church. It has a warm and inviting vibe. If I had one thing that I felt could be improved, it would be the music. I don't like the songs because they are not familiar. However, the live music is nice. read more

I've been attending Zion Church since 2001. I was 19 at the time. I grew up, and accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior, in a traditional Baptist church, so I am familiar to the rituals and formalities of "chuuch". In high school, church was definitely a formality. It was cool...okay I guess. But it wasn't too engaging *yawn*. Sunday School, however, was led by a man who was much more 'relevant' to young culture. He was able to hold our attention more and make the Bible interesting. This all took place while I was in high school; but when I graduated and left for college, I lost touch and, quite frankly, didn't really make an effort to reconnect. Now in college, I was more focused on my social life, females, and getting acclimated to college life. Though I was saved, I was never really challenged to go deeper into my faith. Needless to say, I was one of those undercover Christians (heck, I thought being saved and a 'christian' were two different things). I hooked up with a collegemate who also went to my high school. He introduced me to one of his roommates. That roommate and I became pretty good friends. Being much more serious about his Faith, he eventually invited me out to his church (Zion). He told me that I didn't have to have 'church clothes' or bring anything else but myself. I was amazed. I immediately noticed that praise and worship was sung to the awesome cadence of Go-Go music (a beloved genre native to the MD/DC/VA area), and the sermon was delivered in a humorous, engaging, yet powerfully effective way by Keith Battle. I had never experienced church in this way, a way that kept me engaged and hungry for more (more of not only what entertained me, but the message/sermon as well - FYI). I continued to attend, catching rides with friends and eventually began to drive myself once I gained access to the 'family van' (lol). As the years went by, Zion began to grow and mature. Go-Go melodies, though still powerful and effective in ministry, began to evolve into impeccable renditions of Contemporary Christian Music (ie. Fred Hammond, Israel Newbreed, etc). More pastors and leaders began to emerge out of the congregation. The congregation itself began to grow. They didn't impose tithing and offering upon the congregation. Teens weren't turned away at the door for baggy jeans and wearing hats. More importantly, the message from the sermons remained practical, real-life, relevant, and MOST OF ALL...BIBLICAL! Unlike any other church experience in my life, I wasn't just attending church, I was GROWING in my faith and making change after change in my life. 'Attending church' evolved into 'Getting involved'. I began to actually serve because I wanted to...not just because of my birthday month or my age. I could invite peers to my church with confidence. The pastor was accessible and down-to-earth. The staff didn't sit 3 feet above us, facing us while wearing lofty gowns with gold-embroidered crosses and such. Instead, they were sitting and serving amongst us, talking with us, doing life with us. This was a church I could walk in and belong...not a place where I had to put on a front, suit and tie, speak Christianese, and flash a $$ in the offering plate just to look as holy. Long story short, Zion Church, after 10 years, is still challenging me to grow and serve others in a world where the opposite is status quot. I strongly encourage those seeking a church that delivers BIBLICAL TRUTH (yes, we say "Jesus", "God", and read/reference God's Word regularly), challenges you to grow, and doesn't BORE you to death. PS - Don't worry about having to wear church clothes and digging into your wallet when you visit. Just put on some jeans, a t-shirt (and shoes if you have them) and find a seat. read more

I have attended Zion for 8 years. I can't say enough about how intelligent and caring Pastor Keith Battle is. This Man of God is on fire with his faith and he is the Best Pastor in the world. Our praise and worship team fills your heart and soul with joy and happiness each Sunday. I don't see how anyone can remain in their seats while our praise and worship team send praises and exaltations up to God. Pastor Battle preaches 4 sermons on Sundays so there is ampule opportunity for Christians and non-Christians to find time to learn about our Lord and Saviour. It is come as you are and everyone is welcomed with love and smiling faces. Zion is about bringing the lost sheep into our Lord's flock. Pastor Battle is a very down to earth gentleman who has time to say hi and help me out any way he possibly can. His wisdom has taught me so much about my life and how I can overcome so much with God on my side. I love how he says Struggles are temporary but Glory is forever. I look forward to Sundays so I can attend Zion and I always walk out with a tremendous Blessing.
