Located on Richmond's Bridge Road and sandwiched betwixt generic boutiques and the kind of hairdressers that you just know are going to feather your hair, Tokyo Sushi is actually very good. It took a while for Melbourne's very particular brand of sushi to grow on me but now I'm hooked, and Tokyo Sushi is a big part of that nascent addiction. The menu is expansive and just different enough from Melbourne's countless other sushi places to make it a bit of a destination; while great vegetarian options such as tempura sweet potato and marinated tofu mark this cute little place out from its identikit Japanese competitors. A word of warning though, the incredible selection of sushi may make your eyes bigger than your stomach but make sure you take enough cash. Tokyo Sushi operates a strictly cash only policy which makes forward planning for a gluttonous sushi-eating session an absolute imperative.

I ate in yesterday and tried a deluxe sushi pack that consisted of prawn sushi, salmon sushi and some carved up sushi roll. The food was fresh, not of the greatest quality but still pretty good for Chinese Japanese. I was surprised that even while eating in I still had to eat out of the plastic container, squirting my soy sauce into the plastic lid and trying to mix in the wasabi was pretty difficult. The plastic flipped at one stage and I was left to clean up my mess with a tissue from the tissue box on the table. My biggest gripe about this place is the massive overuse of plastic containers - it's a huge waste, I need to start bringing my own plate or container.

The fried lemon chicken is one of my favourites, and it's one of the only Asian take out stores I know where the chicken always tastes fresh, looks fresh and doesn't have pink or gristly bits. It's usually a testament to how good the food is at a place when it's always chock a block full of people waiting and Kyoto is one of these places. I don't like waiting though, and you don't have to long because Kyoto is always well staffed. I'm always pleased to see just how often they bring out freshly cooked food and they don't just throw it on top of what is already there, the old stuff is replaced with the new stuff which adds ticks for me! You can't go past the fried chicken with lemon or sweet and sour sauce, sweet and sour pork, beef with black bean sauce, noodles, rice and stir fried vegetables. At first glance Oki 2 Go may look like your typical walk in-walk out questionable sushi joint, but take a closer look and a step inside and you'll realise its actually quite an upmarket place. The lighting and red colouring of the decor adds to the authenticity of the Japanese restaurant. Larger than it appears, open til late seven days per week, BYO wine, dine in and take out options, Oki 2 Go won't disappoint. Selecting where to eat can be a hard choice when in Acland street but trust me, Oki 2 Go certainly holds its own in the dining mecca of St Kilda. Tip: If you're a fan of bento boxes, choose the Oki Bento, mmmm oishii!!
