I had pain in my neck and shoulders, lower back, left hip and the worst of all between the Sacrum and Coccyx. Also I was suffering from Plantar fasciitis. All those conditions were causing me a lot of stress and affecting my work performance. If i sat down for more than 10 minutes I would get terrible pains. When I stood up I would be hunched over for about 10 minutes until I could stand strait again. I couldn't go on long trips or do any type of exercises without suffering. Nursing staff does not seem to be managing her pain (she is undergoing radiation for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma) even when I have notified them in person that she is experiencing severe pain. My mother has also developed a pressure sore and had a temperature of 100 but this was not addressed. My sisters and I feel as if we have to be constant "watchdogs" to ensure our mom gets adequate care. Very disappointing.

The skill and integrated approach of the speech, occupational, and physical therapists are second to none. In addition, they have machines used for therapy, such as the Syncrony machine for speech therapy, that no other nursing facility has in the Bloomington/Normal area. The nurses and CNAs are friendly, caring, conscientious, and approachable. However, this facility rotates their CNAs and nurses frequently which affects consistency and communication among staff throughout the three shifts. Consequently, if a patient is unable to communicate for him/herself, then he/she needs an advocate to be proactive on the patient's behalf. The staff in dietary and food service work hard to accommodate special dietary needs, and the menu has a lot of variety. The facility is clean and well maintained, and the custodial staff work hard. If my mother would need to return to a skilled nursing facility, I would choose Heartland Healthcare again.

My big quibble with the place right now is the cafe. Coffee is decent. But all they have for creamer is nasty powder (LOADED with sugar). Not sure why there's not real, liquid half n half as I'm sure many members are probably diabetic or have other diet issues with powdered creamer where the #1 ingredient is corn syrup powder. Have those sponsors provide half n half! Highly recommend you join if you are 55+ and come check it out. It's only $30/year which includes most activities. In addition, ARC offers a free shuttle bus that will take you door to door if needed! ARC is a tremendous community asset for the older generations!
