Heard there are new owners and the course is in good shape so we wanted to try it out again. You couldn't pay me to go back there. The new owners need to shut it down and completely rebuild this course. Standing water on most holes and every bunker, hard pan/mud in the middle of the fairway, holes dead and caving in (tip - maybe cut a new hole every so often). This place charges $45 for a round and they should be embarrassed to even let people out there for free. They also have a massive beetle problem which is likely one of the most annoying pests on a golf course. I hope I can save you a few bucks or point you in the right direction so you don't make the same mistake. Try Glendarin, Bella Vista, Zollner or Coldwater before wasting your time or money on this dump. Lake James golf course owners and grounds crew, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Really nice golf course that I've played at least once a year for many years…read more I've played when it's hot. I've played when it's not. I've played in the rain. I've played with half a brain. All true except for the last one...I was thinking about when I played here 2 years ago...it was my first time playing golf after an eye injury. I couldn't quite focus on the ball and it was frustrating! Anyways, course is setup really well with 4 tee boxes to choose from. Expect to be challenged from the tips. The more forward tees make an enjoyable experience for higher handicaps. Greens are fast, tee boxes well kept, and everything is usually in good shape. Very friendly staff. I wouldn't recommend walking because there are a few green to tee trips which are quite long. I hope the course sticks around for many more years...I have yet to break 80 here...but I will someday! Also - looks like they are building a few more houses on the course, just in case you are looking to live there.

Maybe drives and people are the same...the harder you try, the worse the shot ends up. (Tee boxes and fairways are great here. Tee boxes were aerated recently, but plugs were all gone. Center cut of fairways is narrow in places, but that makes it fun!) Playing from the tips, I can score in the 80's here, but scoring a long term friendship with people I care about seems to evade me. (Low scores at this course are generated by playing smart. With lots of creeks and water your shot selection needs to include several layups and specific yardages to put you in a good position to hit the green.) I can usually read a green better than I can read a person. However, the greens here are tough. You first think it will go left, but then you walk it and maybe it will go right, so you don't give up the cup and run it 4 feet past the hole to the right. (Sometimes you just have to go for it, even if failure is imminent.) A lot of people don't understand golf. A lot of people don't like golf, or those that play. That's ok...I don't understand a lot of people. Love the bridges, scenic views, and an obviously well cared for track.
