A couple of weeks ago, some friends were visiting from out of town. I was about to turn left up Hampden Road and head back into town when suddenly I remembered a very important bit of infrastructure that deserved to be shown off. "Have you two seen Arthur Circus!?" "No..." "GREAT." So instead I turned right down Hampden Road and then swung a left, and then we did a couple of loops of Arthur Circus as I pointed out all the tiny little workers cottages that would easily sell for over a million bucks these days just due to the location. To be perfectly honest, I would likely pay that if I got my own little park in the middle of the roundabout created by the circular street, too. I've lived in Hobart for five years and I'm still absolutely TICKLED by Arthur Circus. If you're wandering Battery Point, don't miss a stroll down here.

It's one of the key natural features that determined why Hobart was founded where it is. Gayle and I say part of the Rivulet from our Hotel room in front of the Hospital. It is also believed that Platypuses live in the Rivulet but attempts to find the elusive critter were unsuccessful. And there were more scenic views of the Rivulet than the concrete channel that we first observed.

The facility has a complete veterinary clinic and surgical centre on site, along with places for them to stay. Bonarong is NOT a zoo. Gayle and I were here as part of our group tour, with one highlight being able to see a couple Tasmanian Devils. Other critters here include: kangaroos, wombats, quolls, echidnas, and various bird species. We were able to interact with many of these animals, some of which will be rehabilitated for release. Yes, we didn't see one in the wild, but the mission of Bonarong definitely touched our hearts. It's a cool place with many local animals…read more It's was a bad weather day but we were able to see a few birds and tons of kangaroos before the sky open up to a downpour. The kangaroos were so tame and there were so many of them. There is free food bins to allow you to feed them and they love a scratch on the chest. I'm amazed at how big many of them are and how gentle they are with the visitors. As it was a downpour when we got to the emus and Tasmanian devils, we didn't see much of them. They wanted to stay out of the cold rain as much as we did. We hung around for the tour at 3pm but bailed when the worst of the rain started right around that time. All funding comes from visitors. They have a nice hospital to care for injured wild animals. Staff was very knowledgeable about the animals and were great hosts. Great stop.

St David's Park is a park located in the Hobart CBD. It is centrally located as it is a couple of…read moreblocks from the waterfront and close to Salamanca Place. This appears to be the primary park in the area as it takes up a whole city block. My first visit to this park was on the first days of winter in Australia. As such, there were indications of this as there were colored leaves on the ground. Though it was cold, there was still plenty of green trees around. The trees here were mostly pine, though I did see one palm tree as well. This is a great place to take a stroll as there are long walkways around the park. It is also a good place to lounge as there are a number of benches to sit on. If you work in the area, this seems like a good spot to enjoy a lunch break at when it is warm out. If you are looking for a park in the Hobart CBD to get some fresh air and sun, I would recommend St David's Park.

Perfect…read more The grass seems to be lush and green all twelve months of the year, and is just perfect for an afternoon nap or a weekend picnic with friends--feel free to make it a boozy picnic, because you're legally allowed to BYO to the park before 10pm any day of the week. It's such a huge space that I've never yet felt like I was encroaching on anyone else's space. Grab a bite to eat (maybe some fish and chips from the pier?) and enjoy a lazy summer evening in a picturesque corner of town.

Writing this many reviews in that time seemed like climbing a mountain. Thus it seems fitting to write a review about Mount Wellington which I visited earlier this year. Mount Wellington is a mountain located in the southeastern portion of the island of Tasmania. It is not the tallest mountain on Tasmania and it is not even close as it ranks 50th. But the mountain's location overlooking the city of Hobart which is the largest city on the island makes this spot an appealing place to visit. In fact, this was my primary reason for visiting Tasmania having seen pictures of it online. The location is easily accessible from Hobart and there are a number of ways to reach it. You can hike, bike, rent a car or book a tour. The day I trekked to the mountain was the first day of winter, so it didn't make sense to hike or bike up. Instead, I joined a bus tour as it seemed the most economical and simplest option. Before you go, make sure to cover up. It is chilly at the summit, so I would suggest wearing winter weather clothing or a windbreaker with a hoodie along with additional layers. Make sure to also bring provisions like water and food. There are restroom facilities at the summit, but no places to get a snack. Also check the weather conditions before going. If there is snow or ice, the road to the summit may be closed. To reach the summit of Mount Wellington, you need to drive up Pinnacle Road. This road is reminiscent of going up Round Top back home in Honolulu as it is quite winding. As you go up, there are some spots at a lower elevation that you can stop off to take pictures at. After reaching the summit, the tour guide gave me 30-40 minutes to look around which I think is sufficient time. Though it is a little rushed, so if you really want to bask in the beauty I would give it a hour. Upon visiting Mount Wellington, I thought it really lived to its reputation and more. It was cold, but the sun was shining and there was mostly clear skies. The mountain is covered with rocks and mossy grass. The mountain's summit is so high that it was located above a few clouds in some parts. There are roped walkways at the summit from which you can take pictures of the surroundings below. The view on Mount Wellington of Hobart and the blue waters of the Derwent River are perfect. It is impossible to take a bad picture from here. There is also a lookout building if you want to take your pictures from an enclosed space. And a giant white tall structure here which is a radio tower taking advantage of the mountain's height and location. Visiting Mount Wellington was one of the biggest highlights of my trip to Australia. It is a jaw-dropping place full of natural beauty. I highly recommend traveling up to the summit here if you are visiting Hobart as it will be one of most memorable spots of your trip.
