The water in our bathroom (both sink and shower) also didn't get very hot. The tiny parking lot is kind of a nightmare. We had a driver so we didn't have to deal with parking, but can only imagine our crazy it would have been if we did have our own car. Their terms state the Cancellation Policy is "free of charge of (sic) cancel 1 day before the arrival date." What does this mean? I tried calling them but the person answering kept hanging up on me. Apparently she doesn't speak English. So I sent a couple emails, and got no response. Then I enlisted my fiancé to call them, since she speaks the language. She was told I could get a credit but no refund. That's not what their terms state. And by the way, the email address listed on the company website is no longer used. How did I know that? This is a disorganized hotelier. So I've sent them two emails clarifying their position, and have yet to get a response back. So I've escalated this to my credit card company. My recommendation: stay away from this place; they don't deserve your business.

I paid in cash upon arrival and was pleased to see I had been upgraded to a fabulous room. The room was amazing and much more than I had expected considering the complaints I read on TA. There was a large sitting area with desk, nice comfy and clean beds, and a huge luxurious bathroom. The bathroom is a huge deal to me, and this delivered. The shower was amazing with a rain setting and waterfall setting. The tub was deep and perfect for having a soak. My only complaint was that the hot water took long to heat up in the sink and tub. The shower heated quickly so I assume it's a piping issue. Other than that, I absolutely loved the room. The service was excellent. I was a bit worried about the language barrier but there was always someone around to assist. No issues at all. One day I need laundry done and they got it done for a reasonable cost and quickly. Another day I went to the spa and had a massage. The masseuse was professional and did an amazing job. I ate at 2 of the 3 eateries here and the food was pretty good. I'm not going to tell you the food was outstanding, but it was decent. I'm sure a few tweaks to the recipes will turn the food above average to excellent. I had the buffet breakfast multiple times here and enjoyed it. There were plenty of options available, including a made to order egg station. The savory breakfast items change daily as well, with choices such as fried fish, longganisa, pancit, shu mai, veggie egg rolls, etc. There is a large sweet section also, with traditional Filipino sweets. Loved it. Check out was super easy. Available as well was an airport shuttle, which was fast, polite, and efficient. Could not have had a less stressful stay. The bath's shower had a handheld spray head in addition to the overhead rainshower. I never expected there to be a 2-sided round mirror on adjustable arm, so I was pleasantly surprised. Blow dryer is provided (I had brought my own travel dryer and didn't need to use it for once), as well as steam iron & ironing board. The room has plenty of outlets to charge all devices, and a good sized TV. The pool area is lovely, and the water is very warm with only a touch of chlorine. I think the depth is only 3 feet at both ends, so don't expect to really swim, unless you're a kiddo. Shower room has two stalls with body wash and shampoo provided. But for me personally, the best feature of Summit Hotel Tacloban is the restaurant for breakfast buffet, and dinner, and the lobby lounge's potato lunch bar. What a spread! It beats the luxury hotel's breakfast buffet we have enjoyed in Quezon City, and costs less, too! It pleases me to see how well trained and refined the wait staff is. So you can imagine how it bothered me to see this morning a big family of Balikbayans come to the buffet in their pj's! We got a room facing the ocean, which provided us with a gorgeous view as well as allowed me to run on the beach every morning. I'm not sure how the hotel was before it was renovated after Yolanda, but it is very nice now. Our room was large, even for US standards, had a flat screen TV, and the bathroom was nice and roomy. The water pressure was good and had nice, steady, warm water available during showers -- something I have come to find as a luxury in the Philippines when not in major cities. The pool area, restaurant, and lobby are definitely instagram worthy and my extended family enjoyed spending the day with us there. There is a 500 php fee per guest not staying at the hotel to use the pool. Breakfast buffet was 599 php and dinner buffet was 699 php per person if not included in the hotel price. I loved breakfast, but for me, dinner was lacking and not worth the price. However, there is a show offered during the weekend dinners include fire dancers, which my family loved. Everything looked clean and all workers were helpful. They do utilize OJTs though, which I feel like is kind of an abusive system in itself, but that's for another time -- minus one star for that. The one hour massage I received here was just okay and would not be acceptable if I received it in the US, but for about $15 dollars, what can you expect? Just the facts: entrance = 350 pesos + 50 for the corkage fee per head total = 400 and more or less we were 75 heads they gave 15% discount for a group discount of more than 30 people, it is still to high on my opinion. Slides and children's water park - they start at 10:30am and only do 1 slide at a time 30 minute each . There reason is the equipment will only do one. (Why open a park when you can only run one). In my opinion it's a rip off. What if you are all adults and want the big slide. Fyi they stop running at 4:30pm. Food has corkage fee , lechon has corkage fee and you cannot bring water or any drinks or you will also be charge a fee. The soft drink as of this review is 77 pesos. The tuba was also expensive. The restroom was decent however there was no soap to wash your hands . The employees also uses the restrooms , so I wonder if they even wash hands with soap. No toilet papers and no trash bins inside the rest rooms. The positive side is the place outside looks well maintained a lot of opportunity to take pictures.
