I've taken other pop up dance classes around Orlando but nothing compares to Diva Dance Orlando. I believe that stems from the amazing owner, Brittany! She is truly passionate about this company and the mission behind it all which is to create community and confidence through dancer. The structure of a dance class with Diva Dance begins with "community time" where they have give us a question and have us find someone to share our answers with. Next we do a warm up song and we begin learning the dance. Dance classes currently take place at one of two studio locations on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays-Sundays. After we learn the dance we have "performance opportunities" to hand our phone to our new dance bestie and have them film us. This is so we can come back later to that video and watch our own confidence grow! What a beautiful concept. It ends with a cool down and a squad pic! I have taken nearly 30 dance classes in just three months of having a membership. The positive energy is contagious and i literally cannot get enough of Diva Dance Orlando. The thing that really sold me was the fact that they do monthly "Diva Dates" to give members a chance to hang out and build deeper connections outside of dance class. I can promise that you will feel seen when you attend a Diva Dance class. There are dancers in there of all shapes, sizes, ages, colors, and skill levels. While this form is a good workout, it isn't for everyone at all times. For those interested in something reflective, more meditative, yet still provides excellent muscle training, Iyengar yoga is recommended. Problem: there are no Iyengar classes in Orlando. Just as good as Iyengar is Anusara yoga, a type of yoga developed by John Friend which takes from the Iyengar form and builds on its principles. I have visited many studios in N/NE Orlando. Most of the teachers at these studios have not been practicing long and have been teaching for less. This doesn't mean they aren't good teachers, it's just that with many years of experience comes wisdom and better teaching practices which equals a better more safe experience for you. I know a good teacher when I see one. I've practiced all kinds of yoga, been practicing for a while, and have taken classes with the best teachers in Los Angeles and San Francisco. I found Lake Center Yoga when I was looking for a teacher with many years of experience and someone who taught something other than power yoga. Sri Ekan and Nirgunavathi Ananda teach Anusara yoga at this studio. They have been practicing yoga for 36 and 31 years, respectively. (From what I've seen, the average length of practice for any teacher in Orlando has got to be ten years, if that.) I knew that this place was a gem after one visit. Sri Ekan's teaching style was casual without pretense or pedantry. I left the class feeling high as a kite and with knowledge that complemented my current practice. The studio itself is on the smaller side with a great view of a lake. The vibe is welcoming and laid back. The people were warm and friendly and of varying ages, ethnicity and build. Of note, there is a resident mascot, Honeybear, who has got to be one of the sweetest dogs I have ever encountered. I encourage everyone to give this hidden gem of a yoga studio a try. You will not be disappointed.
