Well, at this point, I have exactly two reviews left to write from drafts I wrote while I was in…read morePortugal in January, now a whole 6 months ago... I figure I should really finish them before they become *hopelessly* obsolete. This place was very much on my list, as I'd heard great things. I will say, I definitely do recommend adding Coimbra to your trip if you're going between Porto and Lisbon, the food here is great (other than one hole in the wall sandwich shop that gave us food poisoning :p.) Granted, this feels like the sort of place where the menu might change completely in 6 months, but if any of it is still there, or regardless, as a feel for the overall quality (i.e. mostly great; slightly inconsistently so). Between the two of us, we tried: The soup of the day - excellent (though, granted, probably not the same soup you'll get if you're there, if it's a "soup of the day"). Bread to go with the soup (has to be ordered separately, but inexpensively so) - also great. A duck croquette appetizer - good but skippable. Not a lot for the price, and the duck was rather drowned out by the sauces (great sauces though). Duck rice... was just ok. Wasn't a lot of duck in it - it was mostly just... rice? Very skippable. Beef cheek stew, omg. If this is still on the menu, don't skip it. A little price for the size, but unlike the other bowl, hearty, filling, and just wonderfully tasty. Also just love how much less of a markup there is Portugal on wine, where a glass of house rose of this quality for the equivalent of 4 euro would be near unheard-of. The food may have been a little pricey, but that was a great glass of wine, for 4 euros.

Amazing food in a room with a stone wall that feels like secret cave. But the food is the star,…read moreeverything we had was delicious. Service was prompt and friendly.

Gorgeous seafood on the tank but the way it was prepared completely underwhelmed. First of all,…read morethis is a Michelin rated restaurant, and the prices reflect that. It is wicked expensive for Porto, by far the MOST expensive restaurant we ate at in Porto. Been much, much Fancier and tastier ones. It was recommended to us by a chef, and it is also featured on Bourdain's parts unknown, so perhaps our expectation was way too high, but boy did it disappoint, I could not even finish my plate. Atmosphere: other than the impressive seafood and fish tank, the decor is super outdated and corny, not up to par with the prices. The complementary bread served was over toasted bread so soaked in oil it was dripping. When we saw the prices, we decided not to go for $300 for 2 and instead selected crab appetizer and Arroz com Lobster (which the very, very nice waiter, I gave to say, convinced us to have vs the Arroz com Mariscos. Let me start with the crab appetizer, for those of us who live in the Pacific Northwest, it was a very generous portion of Dungeness crab meat, wow, impressive, that was the best part of the meal, except for the potion that was drenched in a very bad tasting and not complementary mustard sauce that completely over powered the crab, the rest was just nice crab meat in Mille-feuille cup that was also over-cooked, dry and completely tasteless, perhaps we were not meant to eat them. Now the lobster Rice, wow, what a disappointment, the lobster was huge, have to give them that, but the rice was completely overcooked and it was more of a lobster rice soup than Arroz com Lobster. The Lobster, although huge, was completely overcooked, hard and tasteless. Dessert, chocolate lava cake, skip it or pick something else, It was not worth the extra calories. This was the ONE AND ONLY, disappointing food stop in Porto period and unfortunately the most expensive and most highly recommended. If you go, I'd suggest, go all out and pick the seafood tower, or at least stay away from Arroz com lobster if you don't want a soupy consistency. Our final bill was close to $250 euros, with a $30 bottle of wine, split Arroz com lobster, split dessert and appetizer, that was by the way, selecting the cheapest things we could get on the menu. I personally will not go back and do not recommend. Now, we have eaten at some of the most amazing and expensive restaurants in the world and the price is absolutely not the reason I'm giving this place such a bad review. But the combination of bad tasting food, high cost, underwhelming atmosphere is simply hard to overcome. I really do stay away from giving places a 1 star, but if it was not for the good service by our server, I would definitely rate this a 1 star. I was grossed out by the taste of the food until the next day. There are a lot of selections in Matosinhos, I'd suggest you research a few before you settle for this place. There is soooo much amazingly good seafood in Porto. I just wish they were able to make the amazingly good looking seafood they have in the tank taste fabulous and up to par with the prices.
