Upland Brewery, in SoBro on College Avenue, has expanded next door and you'll find a large, attractive, family friendly tasting room. It's bright, welcoming and comfortable with lots of natural lighting. The warm brick, attractive Edison lighting, wood tables and metal chairs plus banquette bench provides comfortable seating in a casual but chic dining area. The large communal table is perfect for groups.
Upland created an arched entry in the center of the connecting wall to the previous Open Society location. The same cozy bar is still located in the original Upland space (21+) with another bar in the back of the new space along with a separate entrance. The front bar (along College) doesn't open till 4:00 p.m. (per sign) and possibly the back bar.
Upland offers their various styles of beer, sour ales, wines, cocktails and ciders. Upland now has a menu offering appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers and entrees. We'd finished lunch at Twenty Tap shortly before arriving at Uplands so we'll try out the menu another time.
From the seven beers and 2 sour ales on the Tap List my husband ordered the 16 oz. Campside Pale Ale (5.4% ABV) which is an American pale ale featuring three types of hops, cascade, simcoe, and mosaic. He'd tried 4 of the seven beers in the past but this was his first Campside Pale Ale and he thought it was the best of the five he's tried. I decided to have a couple cups of Tinkers coffee which is always enjoyable.
Nathan, our server, appeared to be the only server but he never missed a beat. He checked on us often, refilled beverages, cleared empty glasses and was prompt with the check.
It's wonderful to see Upland grow and incorporate the empty building next door, adding much needed space and the opportunity to offer food. We'll definitely be back in the near future. read more
