Checked out "Charlotte's Ice Cream" aka Charlotte's Speakeasy this past Thursday night. Would highly recommend checking out this speakeasy that is open Thursday-Saturday nights only. You enter through the front or back of the ice cream store and give the secret password found on the website to the bouncer and you descend a set of stairs to the speakeasy. The ambiance of this bar takes you back to the 20s. Nick, the owner, is present at night offering a friendly greeting to guests. There is a coat check if you want to check your coat behind the parlor. (Fun fact) The menu covers are actually made from the tin of the original ceiling from the original speakeasy Drinks and food: there is an option to order food and sit down at the little tables around the band. Drinks.... I would highly recommend the "Evening in Paris" if you want a lighter and softer drink. We first tried the Americano and the Mary Pickford which was recommended by the bartender. The Americano was a heavier drink with grenadine that was quite bitter and the Mary Pickford was waaaay on the sweeter side. I would definitely say order the "Evening in Paris" which was recommended by Nick. Space: Quite a small area with several tables and a couple couches. Would definitely recommend arriving earlier if you want to snag a table because it got crowded around 8/830 on a Thursday night. Music: there's a live band each night. Apparently, Thursday is more like a low key smoother/softer band and Friday and Saturday is a little more bumping. Overall it was a great night. Nick gives tours of the original escape route and the history of the speakeasy. The way he gives the tour you can tell how passionate he is about this speakeasy and it is awesome to see. My only suggestion is maybe have more than one bartender on a Thursday. It didn't take long to get a drink but just noticed there was a large crowd to one bartender. Definitely will be back! read more
