Fabulous evening of live music and libations.Lisa E and I arrived with a 7PM reservation for our favorite 2 top, away from the bar and close to the band. During the course of a long evening, I had 2 Black Manhattans up and an order of baked clams, and a ton of club sodas in between. Music was legit, the King Cobra layed down some really amazing rockin blues. We saw them one night in January at Big Daddy's and they have become one of our favorite cover bands. Excellent lead guitar and vocals with some superb solo work. Scotty, who we know from another band, Blue Roots, on blues harp, outstanding. Solid bassist and percussionist contributing to solid music. We stayed for 2 of the 3 sets. Lisa E. making rounds and friends throughout the venue. This is a great little bar that has live music. That's downstairs behind the door in an ice cream shop in Farmingdale.. Myself and my extended family came here to see my nephew play. His band was great. Our waitress was great. She was busy. She seemed on her own, and the place was pretty crowded. I didn't care for a couple of the bartenders. I thought they were rude so I didn't really pay them any mind and just waited for my waitress to talk to. There's only one bathroom downstairs so sometimes she had to wait in line, but it was easy always people to talk to apparently many years ago was speakeasy so it really kept that great vibe. They have big booths. They kept Fred Astaire on the screen. The music was great great company at the area that it was at and was just fabulous. read more

The inside area is small so I would suggest making a reservation if you don't want to have to wait for a table. Love this place! We came here in search of a nightcap and were not disappointed! Behind a bookshelf in an ice cream shop (there's a security guard in front of it) and down a flight of stairs is an amazing bar with amazing music and strong drinks! It's $5 (cash only) to get in which honestly is the reason I cannot give this place 5 stars (it's 2025, why are we still charging covers like we're in college?). There isn't a ton of seating as it's a small spot but if you keep your eyes open you can easily grab a spot as people come and go. The band playing the night we went was excellent and had the crowd grooving and dancing along. The bar area is small but easy enough to grab a drink. Good place to get either soft or hard ice cream when the mood strikes! After any meal in any of the myriad restaurants in the area, you might find a need to walk off some of that meal and stop in for an ice cold treat. There is a fair amount of seating inside and more outside in the back if you want to eat and relax. Booths and tables plus some up front for people-watching through the plate glass windows. Service was quick and friendly. While there was only one worker behind the counter when we visited the store was quite quiet and no other was needed. My girls got various flavors and my little one got some toppings for hers. Both were very satisfied and promised we would come back to try something new next trip. read more

Changing my previous rating after hanging here last night - 2 factors changed my rating - 1 the waitress Mel was amazing !!! She was so attentive and super friendly. 2 met the owner Nick he was so sweet - he gave us the entire history of the building during prohibition- even gave us a tour. I love history, so I was super excited. He checked in on each table and stayed on the floor the entire night. The band that was playing was really good. I didn't have high hopes for the food, but everything was delish, we had wings, pizza, clams, caprese salad. Did not try the food. Went for the music great if you're in to jazz and blues. Drinks were good waitress was tentative at the beginning not so much towards the end of the night. The only other complaint I have is I think the music is just a little bit too loud for the size of the space so you really can't have a conversation without screaming But would definitely recommend it to try read more

We had the best time here. We were a group of 11 and were seated right by the band. They were awesome. We sang, we danced, ate and had some post dinner ice-cream for dessert upstairs. The food was surprisingly good. I think they might get it from Vespa next door. We had the rice balls, stuffed mushrooms, burrata, stuffed clams and pizza. The drinks were lovely. Jordan, our server was great. All around great experience. If I had to nitpick on one thing, it would be the big signs in front that say, "Charlotte's Speakeasy". Went for Valentine's Day. I was very excited to have gotten a reservation for it. But: Our server/bartender seemed indifferent. No introduction or welcome. The guy just kinda stood there until I ordered. The food was better than I expected. A nice arugula salad, and some baked clams done perfectly with a reduction sauce across the plate. Excellent baked clams. Drinks: My own drink was correct. My fiancée's drink came with an entirely different garnish than what was on the menu. I figured, "simple mistake. Easy fix. No big deal" When I brought attention to it, we were given a replacement drink and told "the drink was correct, it just has the wrong garnish". Well.... the drink was still wrong, if we really wanna get into it. But that the replacement drink was a different color, I'm going with the drink being wrong and someone just having a bad attitude(?). I was a bit disappointed that there seemed to be no attention to the fact that it was Valentine's Day. I noticed some drink specials on a chalk board with hearts on it. That the band didn't seem to even dress nicely for the occasion, though.... it left us feeling like we were overdressed for the occasion. I'm shocked this is only ranked #5 for cocktail bars (and #2 for speakeasy) in my area. I've been here a few times, both pre and post COVID and I will say it's easily one of the best (since C&K has closed - RIP) I love the speakeasy vibe, and Charlotte's is the real deal. Located below a functioning Frozen Yogurt storefront, it's very niche to go through the bookcase and downstairs to an intimate bar. I always order an Old Fashioned as my first drink in places like these, and do judge based on how the drink comes out. This was a home run. Not too sweet (I like them boozy) and none of that muddled fruit sh*t you get in so many places. Enjoyed it so much that I asked the bartender (who I realized after the fact I knew through a mutual friend) to surprise me and was blown away. Didn't even want to know what was in it. Went on a night when there was a live jazz band playing, and it totally added to that ambiance and vibe. Ordered a pizza to nosh on, and it totally hit the mark as well. I went to Charlotte's with my husband and my parents last night. It was a fun time had by all. The vibe, the jazz band, the drinks and the waitstaff were all awesome!! Sienna was our waitress, her uplifting personality immediately puts you in a good place. Rod, the person who needs the password and lets you in was very friendly and funny as well. The jazz band Paumanock Stompers played for about 3 hours and were all amazing and very talented. We will definitely be coming back. read more

My fiancé loves speakeasy's, so we decided to check it out. It's actually inside a place called Charlotte's Frozen Yogurt - which let me mention to you, I would never eat at - it's self-serve icecream and all of the topics are laying out for all to use and cough on, which I saw someone do - so I decided not to get ice cream. Also, it's weighed. Not cool. Anyway, you go in the back, enter through a bookshelf. Surprisingly we got to go there on a Friday night at 7:15 when the band was just starting at around 7:30. We had front row which was really neat. Their food selection is slim, but we got a medium-sized cauliflower pizza for about $22 and it fed us over four slices each. It was a lot smaller than you would think, but was also a real speakeasy back in the day, so I'm sure theres a reason why. On the menu, it says to ask Nick about the history - which I'm sure he must be the owner. We did and he gave us a history and a tour of the rest of the building normal customers don't see. One day, I don't remember how, I found out that there was a speakeasy below. We went to the website, got the "password" and walked up to the big guy at the back in front of the book shelf. He said, "Can I help you?" I gave him the password and 5 bucks, then he pushed in the bookcase, and we went downstairs to a roomy speakeasy. The bar was great, there are plenty of seating, especially outdoors during the nicer days, and the band played on stage. The menu has a pretty good selection for some easy bar food. I'm on a diet so I'm keeping it simple with wings but they have pizza, salad burrata and other stuff. It's a small, but fun spot. You need a password to get in and if you want a table you definitely need a reservation. You're not getting a spot on a whim. Don't do like I've done twice, the website says you can make reservations but they're only open "Friday, Saturday and Sunday" but you can make reservations during the week. It's a good spot for the older crowd but there's youngsters in there too. The music is always fantastic. It was pretty warm this last time. Great drinks and food. It can be tricky to grab a table or seat or even to squeeze into the bar for a drink. So be prepared for that! We booked Charlotte's for my daughter's bridal shower. She wanted a non-traditional bridal shower and this was the perfect fit. We had put Charlotte's Frozen Yogurt (the upstairs area) as the venue of the shower and for those who didn't know about Charlotte's Speakeasy, they were pleasantly surprised at the hidden gem downstairs. Nick and John were so accommodating and anything that we needed they were right there to help. Nick gave small groups of us some background history and tours of the original tunnel area that were used to escape from the police back in the 1920's when Prohibition was in effect. The bartenders, Lauren and Gillian, were top notch. They made the perfect Old Fashioned for me. When they knew my daughter was arriving shortly, they had a Tequila Cosmo ready for her without anyone asking them to do so. They anticipated everyone's needs. Nick had told us about Felico's Catering and so glad he did. The food was delicious and the server, Josh, was the best. Everyone was raving about the food and asked where it was from. Although the high ceilings (10 feet, I'm guessing) and large booths were anything but small. Plenty of room to move about while seated and/or looking to move about the room. The band was a polished, blues-jazz group that was engaging, solid and quality in their sound mix... Just right! The food we had (pizza, apps and such) was on par... Nothing exceptional. I've been coming to Charlotte's for a few years and have always had great service from bartenders Jaz and Lauren, but last night was an unfortunate experience. I planned to celebrate my birthday here and spoke with the host about getting a table near the bar so my parents could have a place to sit. When a table became available, I asked the host if we could grab it and he said no one had reserved it and it was ours. After a half an hour, a female server came over and told us we had to get up because the table had been reserved for people who were over a half an hour late. The host was nowhere to be found and we were forced to awkwardly get up from the table which made my parents then leave. To make matters worse, the female server who commandeered the table was extremely condescending, touching my hands while she called me sweetie and honey, and speaking to me like a child. She and the host offered me a table in the back of the restaurant but that didn't work because I had 20 friends at the bar. We ended up leaving earlier than we wanted to. read more

This doesn't happen often but we were charged tax on top of the drinks so they came out to $14 each. With the cover, drinks, and tip, our bill came out to $40. I thought we were in Farmingdale, not Midtown. Again, this is a cool spot but we wouldn't go on a regular basis because we left feeling like the experience was overpriced. Lovely spot in the heart of Farmingdale - you have to get the password from the website, but they also have like a puzzle anagram thing in the actual ice cream shop itself. Once they get the password (and your ID), they move the shelf and you're greeted by a staircase. On Friday nights, there is a $5 cover. Once we were in, we were kindly greeted by the manager (maybe the owner). It 8:15pm and the place was packed. We were standing by the bar, and there were some open seats but they were scattered and we were a party of four. We asked the manager if we could get a table and he graciously delivered. He seated us right in front of the live music, and that was a great experience in and of itself. I'm not really one to appreciate live music but let me tell you, it was absolutely amazing. Now onto the drinks! Everyone in my party enjoyed their drinks. They got The Obituary, Old Fashioned, Pasado De Moda and A Menacing Tango. (I think they're all $13) I got the Evening in Paris (delicious, refreshing and very satisfying) and their speciality drink which was made with Gin and raspberry sorbet. For the 10 minutes we were at the bar, the bartender asked how us if we liked our drinks and how they were overall - and I think that was great because even though it's such a simple thing, when you're so busy tending to the rest of the bar with handcrafted cocktails, things are often overlooked and so that was greatly appreciated. we also ordered boneless wings, fries and pizza because we got really hungry after our first round of drinks. I found out about this place when a coworker told me she started working here. I never even knew this place existed. I've been to the ice cream shop above a few times..never knew the speakeasy was downstairs! I would say it's Farmingdale's best kept secret. You enter the ice cream shop. Have ice cream if you want. Then you go to the back corner and tell the man what the password is. The password changes weekly, so be sure to find it out! Then the man turns a "light." The bookshelf slides open and then you walk down a flight of stairs...and BAM! Music and alcohol galore. It is loud as it's a live band and the space isn't overly big so personal space is not an option, but the atmosphere is otherwise nice! Drinks/cocktails range from $12-14 so it could get pricey. Beer and wine is also available. There are some munchie options for food that include fries, pizza, buffalo wings and a few other things that I can't remember. For my drinks of the evening I went with "A Menacing Tango" "Spiced Cuban Libre and something else but I can't remember the name. "A Menacing Tango" was interesting as it was spiced with habaneros. Not too overwhelming, but still spicy! "Spiced Cuban Libre" wasn't spicy. It was actually refreshing. The other drink that I can't remember the name was more of an "after dinner drink" as it was very slightly sweet. The bartender was great. He was constantly making drinks for everyone at the bar and people sitting down at a table. He must have strong muscles from constantly making and shaking drinks all night. Go him! If you don't want to stand and be bumped into a few times I highly recommended reserving a table. Dress code is casual and simple. Just no hoodies. I was also told no sneakers, but I saw a handful of people wearing sneakers. On live music nights, which I believe is most nights there is a $5 cover. What are you waiting for? I recently hosted a private party at Charlotte's Speakeasy and everything exceeded my expectations. The level of customer service provided by owners was amazing, I worried about nothing. The drinks were outstanding, the bartender was fabulous, the ambiance is awesome. Everything was clean and coordinated perfectly, not to mention that the price point was exceptional. I would 100% host another event here and encourage others to check it out! The Speakeasy on Friday and Saturday nights is also well run, fun, and I've always had quick service. They have cool, themed drinks and also offer live music. There's also a really nice, BIG, patio. It's a great spot to hit on the weekends if you're local and definitely worth the trip if you're not! read more
