Being from Texas and passing through Springfield, MO on the way back home we decided to give this little BBQ joint a try. We were very impressed with the brisket; a nice smoked flavor without being dry or tough. The smoked turkey was also on point this particular evening.
I didn't care for the brisket burnt ends. They were fatty, more so than normal, and the bark really didn't offer much flavor. I know a good burnt end is hard to make, and I probably have high expectations, but these don't do it for me.
As far as sides, they too were top notch. Some of the best fried okra I've had in a while; really looked like they were cutting and breading it fresh in the kitchen. Solid corn meal breading with the perfect amount of salt to bring out the earthy taste of the okra.
Overall, I was impressed with this bbq joint. It provided enough "home" to carry me through the night and back to Texas the next day. It will be on the list of places to go back to next time we are passing through. read more
