This place is such a treasure. The food is fantastic, fresh, flavorful, generous in portion, and exactly what you want when you are craving old-school Chinese-American comfort food. I ordered the almond chicken lunch special, which came with fried rice, wontons, and an egg roll. Everything was delicious. The egg roll had a lovely hint of curry, the chicken was flavorful without being greasy or overly sauced, and the vegetables were perfectly crisp instead of soggy. The fried rice had a delicate smoky flavor that complemented everything perfectly. I also added a side of hot and sour soup with wonton chips and was delighted. All of it tasted freshly made, which was easy to believe with the constant chopping sounds coming from the kitchen. It has total takeout or casual dine-in vibes: small, cozy, no frills, just really good food and friendly service. What makes it even more special is the heart behind it. The owner pretty much does it all, cooking, taking orders, and serving, with one other person helping. You can feel the pride and care in every dish. They have been serving Poway for 35 years, and it shows. In a world full of chain Panda-style fast food, places like this are rare in San Diego now. A true hidden gem.
