This place is such a treasure. The food is fantastic, fresh, flavorful, generous in portion, and exactly what you want when you are craving old-school Chinese-American comfort food. I ordered the almond chicken lunch special, which came with fried rice, wontons, and an egg roll. Everything was delicious. The egg roll had a lovely hint of curry, the chicken was flavorful without being greasy or overly sauced, and the vegetables were perfectly crisp instead of soggy. The fried rice had a delicate smoky flavor that complemented everything perfectly. I also added a side of hot and sour soup with wonton chips and was delighted. All of it tasted freshly made, which was easy to believe with the constant chopping sounds coming from the kitchen. It has total takeout or casual dine-in vibes: small, cozy, no frills, just really good food and friendly service. What makes it even more special is the heart behind it. The owner pretty much does it all, cooking, taking orders, and serving, with one other person helping. You can feel the pride and care in every dish. They have been serving Poway for 35 years, and it shows. In a world full of chain Panda-style fast food, places like this are rare in San Diego now. A true hidden gem. We've only gone to City Dragon twice - the food was pretty good thought not spectacular. I've never been a big fan of egg foo young but I liked the way they did it: the "omelette" cut in wedges on top of some sauce, veggies, and shrimp, as I recall. My husband wanted more sauce but I liked it just the way it was. I wasn't crazy about the orange chicken but it's not something I would order anyway. We both equally liked the house lo mein. This food is positively disgusting, and inedible. I called the restaurant and asked for a refund before I posted this. The guy was rude, and told me to go ahead with the review, so here I am. The orange chicken was cooked in rancid oil, it is oil soaked, and tastes like a dirty frying pan. The rice is burned beyond belief, and is also inedible. The egg roll tastes like a rotten raisin. The wontons are not even recognizeable. I was able to choke down a couple bites of the rice and chicken before I called them. This plate is going in the trash. read more

Small little restaurant. Came here for some Chinese take out since I was craving dumplings. Ordered the beef fried rice and pork dumplings. I wasn't expecting it to be fried pork dumplings but should've known since it was an appetizer. The inside was juicy and flavorful, but I think I should've asked if they could l've made it steam. I think it would've been better that way. Just don't know if they have that as an option since I didn't ask. Their beef fried rice was good. Not too salty and the beef pieces were tender and not dry. Some restaurants that make beef fried rice can come out tasting dry. The restaurant itself is small but is well put together and decorated with older photos of poway, history of the restaurant, and other things. There's a reason why this place has been in business for so long. It's a local favorite and it's just the basic Chinese food take out restaurant that seats about six people. It has the flavors that everyone expects of an American Chinese fast food joint and just enjoys. The General Tsao's was more like a spicy orange chicken, the bbq pork had more broccoli than snow peas and the king pao tasted like what it should be but be forewarned, it has a lot of zucchini and bamboo shoots. If you're old enough, you probably remember the Chinese restaurant your family used to go to on Friday nights to have a gathering - it was a big thing in the 1970's all over the country. It was a good feeling, good food and a good deal during the recessions and when our parents were spending all the money to put in the gas tank. Well, this is that - a place where you are greeted and get a good deal for great food. I live in Ramona - and the food is still hot when I get home. I spent yesterday at emergency and my husband stopped on the way home and got egg flower soup - it's my matzo ball soup. I was feeling much better after I ate it. He did have some trouble getting through on the phone, so he went in and ordered. They only have one person handling calls, so be patient, it's worth it. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you are trying to get more bang for your buck in these times when your dollar is worth less - this is the place to go. Easier to stop here on the way home from school, work, soccer practice - this is it. I started coming here twenty-years ago, if something bad had happened, it would have happened. Got the lunch special. The worst kung pao chicken I have ever had. No spice, no salt, and there was a strand of hair. Fried rice was terrible - dry/lacked flavor. Visited 10/6/2018 We stopped in for lunch this Saturday to try this small hole in the wall Chinese restaurant. Nice clean little take out kind of place. No Table Service. To bad they loose a star for that. The guy behind the counter was very nice, polite and helpful at explaining the menu. Sadly they have only canned soda with No Glasses and NO ICE. Another star gone. The food came quickly nice and hot. The egg rolls were just ok, nothing to brag about. The Egg foo young was good for the money. The shrimp lo mein was pretty good and I would have it again. The menu has a fair amount to choose from but It was missing The Honey Walnut Shrimp I've grown to love when I go out for Chinese. Even the egg rolls (who can mess up eggs rolls) had a very weird taste to them. The wontons tasted like they may have been made days ago. We will not go back to the Chinese restaurant again! Stopped by for some takeout on Christmas Day since we were hungry and didn't feel like cooking or eating leftovers and this was one of the only places open, so we decided to go all "Christmas Story" and give it a try. I am very happy we did. We ordered the orange chicken, vegetable lo mein, and BBQ pork fried rice. Everything came in standard sized white and red takeout containers, so portion was right on par with most Chinese takeout restaurants. For starters, we were awesomely surprised and happy that they actually had Bbq pork, since a lot of places around these parts don't have it. It was very tasty and Hubs and Wee One both agree that the pork was good. The lo mein was my favorite and was very flavorful. The orange chicken was pretty good too, but a bit spicy with those whole little red peppers in it. Of course I couldn't find any menu online, so I added pictures of their menu. Best Chinese I have had in a non Asia town setting in so-cal. The wonton soup reigns supreme. Soft noodles, fresh veggies and meat. It must be made in house. Also I love their egg rolls. This is one of the only Chinese establishment I know of where I can find FRESH spicy mustard, not the packet garbage. Love their Mu Shu. Love the lo mein. Honey chicken was pretty good. Heard good things about this place so we thought we would give it a try for take out and holy yum! I got the war won ton soup and my husband got the honey chicken plate - both were delicious! His plate was so huge, he's gonna be able to have the rest for dinner! We will definitely be spreading the good word about this wonderful food! We've had takeout many times from City Dragon. We've always enjoyed our selections, although truth be told we generally always have the same things. But it's always been exellent. Someone always greets us with a smile, and takes our order right away. The Ambiance is rather generic plain but we are there for the food not the atmosphere. The prices are very reasonable too.
