This building used to be the Walterville Market and has been there for over 30 years. It has changed hands several times over the years. Before Walterville Market it was Schwartz Brothers, Rays Food Place and an IGA, but always a grocery store.
This past August it was purchased and opened as a Dollar General. We stopped in on Christmas Eve and the store is a huge improvement from the most recent market. They appear to have done a nice job renovating the building.
Dollar General offers food, snacks, health and beauty items, cleaning supplies, housewares, seasonal items and paper products. This location will be great for people headed up river who need to stop for basic items for their day or weekend trip. It's also really convenient for locals who live East of the Thurston area of Springfield. The prices seemed reasonable and the store was clean and well organized. It also felt like there were a lot more amenities inside verses the past grocery stores. read more
