On Sunday, March 19 two friends joined me for the Fairhope Arts & Crafts Festival. After a while walking and perusing the vendors (okay and let's be honest here...an HOUR of looking for a place to park!) we decided to stop into Ravenite to escape the crowds and choose quality of food over the endless trail of fried foods in the food court section of the Festival. Our decision was based on reputation and hearsay from friends. The place was upbeat and friendly with a crowd gathered to watch college basketball at the bar and most tables were filled with small groups eating. Not being overly hungry we ordered 3 beers which arrived ice cold. Our server Dillan was attentive but not pushy and understanding when we got lost in conversation and hadn't chosen food as quickly as we might have. Ultimately we decided to order appetizers of fried mushrooms and loaded cheese fries with the option of buffalo chicken. The food arrived promptly and piping hot. The mushrooms were fresh as in I don't think they had ever seen a freezer and had a very light and appealing batter. The cheese fries were stellar and generous and we were glad we paid extra for the buffalo chicken. It was a game changer that took what may have been any other place's fries to a new and awesome level.
