Not my first time at a First Watch but first time at the Ballantyne location, so I knew what to expect and by and large it delivered. The dish I ordered, the Strawberry Tres Leches French Toast, was pretty good, covered in strawberry slices and a dollop of whipped cream. I admit the Tres Leches part of it, however, was lost on me; I was expecting the sort of moist goodness to be expected from a Tres Leches dish but it really just tasted like challah French toast with strawberries. It's new to the menu so maybe they're still fiddling with it. I also ordered scrambled eggs and cheese because I needed more protein, and those were pretty tasty for sure. My companion ordered the salmon eggs Benedict and reported they were good but overcooked; I could see the poached egg yolks were quite firm. The million-dollar bacon he ordered as a side was reportedly as good as usual. Our coffee was...meh? Later in the morning likely was a bit stale. In summary, nothing was wrong with our breakfasts but nothing was great, either. And with tip, almost $70 for two people for breakfast is a bit steep for average food. So overall, like the coffee, meh? I won't say no to returning but it won't be my go to, either. read more
