I'd heard about Oppa Sushi & Korean before but don't really get up to Alpine that often. Nate and I were in the area recently and decided to stop in for a light lunch. We were welcomed right away when we walked in.
The menu includes quite a bit of sushi and a handful of Korean dishes. I love Korean food and make it often at home, so I'm always excited to try Korean food at restaurants. I wish they had even more Korean options, but we were happy to order their tteokbokki (Korean rice cakes) and hoe dup bap (a rice bowl with mixed greens and raw fish). We also got a spicy scallop roll to try some of their sushi.
The hoe dup bap came with a cup of miso soup that was hot and very salty. It warmed me up on the chilly winter day. The tteokbokki was a nice portion with plenty of sauce. It's not a super spicy dish but it does have a bit of a kick to it. The tteokbokki were perfectly chewy and delicious. The hoe dup bap was my favorite - the fish was very fresh and so tasty, and I liked the sauce that you can drizzle on and mix it up. It felt like a healthy, delicious option, and it was a generous portion. I'd definitely order this again.
Unfortunately the spicy scallop roll fell short for me - the rice was a bit hard, but the chopped scallops themselves were tasty. This is a roll I don't see often but it's one of my favorites.
I'm really glad we finally got to try Oppa Sushi & Korean and would come back to try other items and definitely get the hoe dup bap again, as it's not a dish I've seen often at places around town. read more
