Awlright. So I got a story to tell. So I have been taking my 2016 chevy volt to Davis Hanlees since about mid 2017. Bought all the warranties I could get my hands on so I'm fully covered when it comes to keeping my car protected. Been doing the regular maintenance etc. So in late 2024, took my car in for an oil change and they found an issue with the main electric battery. Without the warranty I have heard price quotes on the battery alone surpassing 10k. So with the warranty I didn't have to pay zip. Thing was apparently these batteries need to be made upon request. So it can take a few weeks or more. So Hanlees was very good about getting me a loaner with no cost to me. Chevy equinox btw and if I switch my car out might do it for the electric version of that! Got it to me for a few weeks so there should be time to get the battery in. Well after a few weeks I come back to check in and the battery still hasn't arrived. Apparently something was going on with GM and their ability to get these batteries out to shops in order to work on the volts. So got Hanlees just renewed my loaner at no cost to me for about 3 months since it was starting to look a little crazy on when GM was gonna fill their part orders. I then started asking about previous cases. Apparently they had only tried to replace the battery on a volt one time prior and ran into the same GM backlog issue. That person waited about a year and then decided to sell their car back to GM for the purchase price. I understood but didn't wanna loose my car. It was too important to me. So I decided to wait. Well near the end of the 3 months of my loaner I got into an accident when someone zoomed behind me while I was pulling out of a parking spot. Low speed collision so no one was hurt. But it crumpled the loaner! So I immediately reported it and also went to tell Hanlees what happened and they were very understanding. They gave me just enough razing to let me know they were glad I was safe. I was pretty ashamed and scared to take another loaner and the insurance was sort of done covering loaners anyway. So decided to borrow a family car that wasn't being used. And the waiting continued. From there we jump to about 5+ months later. I was starting to wo der if I should take GM up on their offer of buying my car back and then getting into something new. When I got call from Hanlees that the battery was in! I was very eager to get my car back but apparently there was a specific tool needed to properly install the battery. And since they hadn't actually done this process before they apparently had never checked to see if they had the tool. So they tried calling other shops they had connections with to see if they could get the tool necessary. Unfortunately no luck. So the next step became a little more creative. Apparently they had a machinest/ mechanic that was capable of creating his own tool for the job. I was a little worried but we decided to go ahead with the attempt. It took an additional couple of weeks but success was achieved! Battery was successfully installed and everything including the oil change was properly performed! The only hiccup was since I needed to get the car reregistered (already paid )and smogged since it had been out of my hands for almost a year, I took it directly to a smog station to get it tested. I didn't know I had to drive the car a couple hundred miles to reset everything before I did that. A mild annoyance but in the process of doing that now. Since I had picked up my car on a day my team wasn't there I hadn't talked to them about it(one of the newer guys was there. Nice kid just didn't know yet to give me that extra info. I'mnot upset about it, if he had known he would have done so). But as soon as they realized they called me to check on me and give me a heads up. They didn't want me to be confused or upset. Even though it's something that wasn't really their fault. So I'm happily running around with my car and checking off a few more miles before finishing my registration checks. Then everything will be back to normal! As much of a nightmare as this story was, it wasn't Hanlees fault. They were curtious, considerate, patient and empathetic with me. They put up with me calling 'em every few days to check and were always polite. When they finally got the battery in they were sharing pictures with me and letting me know every step of the way what was going on and seeking approval before moving foward. They were extremely professional despite GM making them look like the bad guys. But they just weren't. So they not only get 5 stars but they get my continued business and Loyalty. They only way I'm not taking my volt to them is if I live too far away in the future... like maybe another state over. They are a good shop. If ya need one, I recommend starting here. read more
