I am currently a resident at Hillcrest Commons and I'm shocked at the knowledge that it's part of BHS as this place is disgustingly filthy. The quality of care seems to be dependent upon shift and particular employees. Some are top notch whereas others can't be bothered to put down their cell phones and headphones and do their job. Headphones and cellphone use are forbidden in patient care areas . High contact areas like door handles, switches, plumbing fixtures and hand rails have not been cleaned/disinfected since my arrival in early Dec. 2019. Many folks here no longer have the mental acumen they once had and are likely ignored in regard to their personal needs. My roommate who's 94 yrs old got terribly sick over a month ago and it took over 2 weeks before he was given a chest x-ray, this was after my bringing my concerns to several different nursing staff. I mentioned these concerns to his daughter and she was able to get H.C Commons to act. The food is pretty deplorable, but at least some of the staff are eating well, as food intended for residents is stolen and disappears out the back door. I have had nurses sign off on medications and other aspects of my care that were never done. Another example of the conditions here is that there are holes in the walls everywhere in the patient areas, chipped paint, food served on dirty dishes, black mold at the bottom of the wall separating the kitchen and a major corridor ( covered up with new baseboard just in time for a recent inspection). They are spending a fortune remodeling, but the work is being done in offices, front lobby and places that needed nothing. All part of the façade that is being maintained. The lobby has had the front desk and brand new carpeting ( carpeting installed this A.M.) what's bothersome is that what was there looked brand new. If I could rate this as less than 1 star I would. I'm 55 and have my wits about me and my advice is do your homework when considering a place like this for a loved one. Take a thorough tour of the facility especially patient areas, kitchen etc... For the kind of money it costs to be in a place like this ( roughly $200-$300 / day ) make sure your loved one is going to be treated like a family member and not a commodity. read more
