Went to Mahari with a friend and it was such a vibe...cozy, colorful, and full of Afro Caribbean detail. It's a small, beautifully designed space with a warm, intimate feel. We arrived a few minutes after happy hour ended, but the host, Cashmere, was incredibly kind and still honored the specials. Service overall was fast and welcoming.
We tried a smoky plantain-based cocktail first--it was okay (6/10). The pineapple wings were flavorful and definitely a hit. I ordered the lamb burger after flipping a coin, and I'm so glad I did...it was amazing. The fries weren't my favorite, but the burger itself was delish & the fixings paired perfectly. My second drink, a sidecar, was great. My friend had a spicy margarita she didn't love, but enjoyed her salmon Cala.
Throughout the night, the owner and manager came out with bongos, creating a fun, celebratory atmosphere. They toasted birthdays, shared the handmade details behind the space (clay walls, hand-carved decor), and made everyone feel at home. It was cool to see that most of the guests were either first-timers or people bringing friends back.
I'm already planning to return to try the Cazuela de Mariscos (mussels, scallops, crawfish in coconut-pineapple broth). Mahari is definitely a gem, and I can't wait to go back. read more
