BLUF: Meet Fresh is a chain known for Taiwanese-style herbal jelly desserts; and is a good place for those looking for an introduction to this relatively healthy dessert category.
We visited this location shortly after its soft-opening week concluded. Orders were mostly take-out as most seating was still closed to the public.
Food: Very Good (4 of 5)
Value: OK (3 of 5); a bit expensive
We ordered two things:
- Hot Grass Jelly Signature Soup (招牌燒仙草): $9.75. The grass jelly (which looks like black ooze) is soupy, with a lightly herbal / medicinal flavor and a slightly minty (without the usual bitter) aftertaste. The red beans add sweetness, while the mini boba and taro balls in the soup provide different levels of springy / bouncy ("Q") chewiness. While the online menu indicates that the grass jelly will congeal as it becomes colder, that didn't noticeably happen with our serving.
- Almond Pudding with Red Bean (紅豆杏仁布丁): $2.75. Tasty, but a tiny portion.
Other:
- Meet Fresh is located by the 37th Avenue entrance of Tangram.
