SSD HD UPGRADE: I recently bought a new notebook because the video card on my old notebook crapped out. It happened on Easter weekend so Monday went to Best Buy and bought the fastest thing they had on the shelf and then had the Geek Squad put the old SSD Hard Drive into an external case while I was on the phone with one of my clients. They were fast and professional and allowed me to keep working. Now that I had all of the important data transferred, thought I would put the SSD Hard Drive into my wife's computer she uses for her school work. Since Geek Squad did such a great job and were right up the street, I called them. WELL... To make a long story short, I was a wee bit annoyed when I hung up the phone with them. To clone the existing HD to the SSD and install the SSD in the computer... My options were to drop it off and they will get to it once they work on the other 50+ computers ahead of me or to pay $100 to be "upgraded" to same day service. Since my wife uses it for school and they were unable to even tell me when my wife would see her computer again... I chose OPTION 3 and called Palm Tree Computer Systems. I remembered them from my many trips to the restaurant next door. I spoke to the owner and explained my situation and he said no problem. I brought the notebook and SSD HD to them after confirming with my wife she did not need it that evening. My wife reminded me her battery was not holding a charge so I asked them to check that as well. About 2 hours later the technician called to give me an update on what was happening and said he would call me tomorrow to let me know if the computer was ready. The next morning I received a call and was told the transfer was complete and it went well but the battery was in need of a replacement. Because they would need to order the battery I said I would check to see if it was obtainable locally. After consulting with my wife, she said it was not a big deal and could wait so when I went to pick up her computer, I just had them order the battery and paid for everything on the contingency I could just bring it in when the battery was in and have them replace it right away. They agreed and off I went. Just FYI... I have the skills to do all of what I asked them to do but I prefer pay others to do IT work I am capable of doing these days because I can. I had an IT consulting company years back so I am a stickler for details when it comes to IT work being done for me. Their staff was nothing less than professional from the first call until I picked up her notebook. When I got it home I immediately verified that everything was done to MY specifications and no "Shortcuts" were taken... The drive checked out PERFECTLY and not a single screw was stripped out. YES... I actually check little details like that because I am really that anal retentive about the details when it comes to servicing my computers. They not only met my expectations but EXCEEDED them in many areas and I am a stickler for details. If ANYTHING was not right, I would have detailed it in this review! You can bet I will be updating you about the battery situation. Since they did such a good job, I also plan to throw them a curve the day I show up to have the new battery installed but I will save that part for the UPDATE to this review... For NOW...
