After my horrible experience at Oki's (http://www.yelp.com/biz/oki-japanese-steak-house-north-providence#hrid:65zFuX2-L6wGMmsAtoPidg/src:self) I was looking forward to finding a Hibachi place that would finally give me my money's worth. Ichigo Ichie fit that mold completely. First of all, the atmosphere is really great! Fun decor, very lively. It really does make a difference after Oki's dingy and aged looking decor. I could tell from the moment I walked in that it would be a fun experience. My only negative comment is that there is a horrible draft in the waiting area by the front door (especially considering there's an entrance with a fountain and stuff before you even walk into the actual restaurant). I would think they'd make more of an effort with heaters or something to try and remedy that situation.
Next onto service. MUCH MUCH better than Oki's. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive, we got our drinks promptly, and the hibachi chef was very entertaining, squirting sake into people's mouths, making lots of jokes and doing tons of tricks. Complete opposite of our lame experience at Oki's.
The food is exactly what I'd expect at a place like this, except that it was a lot more filling than I remember the food being at Oki's, and also here they give you a choice included in your meal of fried rice or white rice (and even noodles), whereas at Oki's you have to pay extra to have fried rice. The chef was also great at suggesting which sauces to try with what, while at Oki's the chef didn't even tell us what they were and I had to ask and even then he seemed annoyed with me. Wow, what a huge difference.
I wouldn't give the food 5 stars, it was good, but nothing over the top fantastic, but the whole point of eating at a Hibachi restaurant is for the experience! I would certainly give the chefs here 5 stars for that. I left dinner feeling completely satisfied from every direction... my tummy was full and I had spent the past hour or so laughing my butt off and really having fun with my companions. I'm shocked at the bad reviews this place has gotten. I'm a pretty discriminating diner, and I really enjoyed my experience here. Perhaps their sushi isn't the best, I can't comment since I didn't try it, but for the Hibachi aspect it blows Oki's out of the water. read more
