This used to be one of my favorite hibachi places I will say over the last couple of visits. It's probably not one of my favorites anymore. I don't know if they change the quality of meats or what don't get me wrong, It's still good but definitely not the top choice.

This review is strictly for hibachi service, we haven't eaten dinner in any other area. We love having a hibachi place so close to us! The food is always excellent and the drinks are delicious. Highly suggest a lychee martini or one of the Asian beers like Sapporo or lucky Buddha. Super fun for date night or with a group but DEFINITELY make a reservation ahead of time regardless! If it's Thurs-Saturday nights, you will have to wait if you just walk in.

Spicy salmon roll - missing spicy mayo

Ordered 5 maki rolls. At least 3 of them were missing the finishing sauces (spicy mayo and eel sauce). The other 2 could have been missing sauces but it was our first time ordering them so I'm not sure. I called to let them know my spicy rolls weren't what I ordered because there was no spicy mayo. The girl said I can only credit you $1 because it's just the sauce. Look - sushi is pricey and when you order a roll and it comes missing an ingredient, it's not the roll you ordered...it's the wrong order. Very disappointed. If I lived closer I would have taken them back.

one of my favorite favorite places to go for special events, food is always amazing, chefs always put on a good show too! I usually always get the chicken and shrimp hibachi, but when im feeling adventurous i try a new sushi or a new drink. Never had a bad experience!

11/9 at Ichigo Ichie, this place has gone down hill since our last visit when I rated this place excellent: Nice presentation, less than perfect freshness, taste just ok. Service at the bar excellent, drink (1) very generous. Noisy, I just may be out of their target demographic now.

This restaurant is great for date nights and family dinners. My kids love this place and having an interactive dining experience. The gobble up everything on their plate and giggle and laugh the whole time. They even have gotten really good at catching flying zucchini with their mouth! We've tried many of the different proteins available; chicken, beef, shrimp, and scallop and usually order a side of noodles for the table to enjoy as well - it's all really delicious. On the day that I took these pictures, my son and I stoped by for lunch - where we ordered a bento box to share and the hibachi lunch special. We returned to the restaurant two weeks later, where 5 of us had lunch on the hibachi side of the restaurant and our bill was $199 - which is outrageous for 3 kids and 2 adults - but we all had fun and enjoyed our meal. Pro tip: looking for the best value? Go at lunchtime and sit in the restaurant and order your hibachi items the way you like them - you may not get the show of having a chef cook for you table side, but you'll pay half the price and get all the same food! Other things to mention: The restaurant adds a 20% gratuity for parties of 5 or more - so be sure to check for that line item on your bill. The hibachi chef accept tips directly if you feel like you'd like to tip them individually after they have cleaned up after cooking your meal. If you have a small party and want to eat at the hibachi table, the restaurant may ask you to wait until they fill most of the table with other guests. They are in the process of completing an outdoor seating area, which I am excited to try out this summer.

Really great meal here. Came here on a rainy and dreary Saturday night for dinner with friends. I ordered 3 regular maki rolls, while the others at the table ordered fusion rolls. We also shared a beef nagimaki and edamame. I also got a seaweed salad. Again, all the food was fantastic. Service was great too. The server was attentive and patient and came over periodically to check on us. We had plenty of time ordering and didn't feel rushed nor ignored during our visit here. My only complaint is the drinks. My cocktail was super super weak, I questioned if there was even any alcohol in it. Kind of a waste of money although this probably depends on who is working as bartender. Definitely wouldn't order drinks again here but the star is the sushi for sure. Overall a great time and will be back here again soon.

It is small on the inside, but there are plenty of tables and there's a sushi station, where you can watch them make the rolls right in front of you. We got seated next to a wall, so it felt semiprivate. My friend did warn me the food takes a while to come out, so I placed my full order all at once. For sushi, my friend and I ordered the Tempura (8 pieces), Yam Roll (8 pieces), and Umeshiso (6 pieces). We also shared the Shrimp Yakisoba. The sushi came out after about 25 minutes and the noodles about 15 minutes after. The sushi pieces were a lot smaller than what I am used to, but I really appreciated that the ratios were still right and I didn't have to break a jaw to get it into my mouth. The shrimp tempura was the one I was most familiar with and it was very tasty. The yam roll was delicious and almost tasted like a French fry. The Umeshiso was unique. It was very salty and limey with a subtle mint flavor and a sweet after taste from the plum paste. The shrimp yakisoba was incredible. It was very flavorful; the noodles were perfectly cooked, there were lots of fresh vegetables, and about 4 big and juicy shrimp. I enjoyed my time here. Although service is slow, the staff was very attentive, and it felt nice to slow things down.

As one of the highest rated sushi bars in Providence I have to say I was very disappointed to say the least. The quality of the fish and rice was that of which you would find at most any sushi restaurant, overly saturated fish lacking in texture. Hard stiff sushi rice laking texture and flavor used for the nigiri (possibly due to the quality of fish on top). This was also a first time for me finding a bone in the sashimi or receiving Kani as part of a house sashimi. They also had Maine Uni available, the portion of Uni was the smallest I have ever received just 3-4 gonads atop very stale rice wrapped in a nori paper which all completely overtook the flavor of the Uni its self. As a whole I would judge Ran Zan as a baseline sushi restaurant by western standards for the quality of its ingredients and the quality put into the preparation and presentation of its dishes. 4.8/10 if you want sushi go to your local spot or look further for the real high quality sushi restaurants/bars Providence HAS to have better to offer.

With a 4.6 rating, we were genuinely excited to try it. Walking in, first impressions were great. The inside of the restaurant was super cute, the artwork was beautifully done, and the initial greeting was welcoming. Unfortunately, things started going downhill pretty quickly after that. We had a few questions about the menu, but the hostess seemed confused and didn't really understand what we were asking, so we ultimately just gave up and ordered what sounded good. Food-wise, it was very mixed. The sushi roll was phenomenal...genuinely the best part of the experience, and my son absolutely loved his. The shrimp udon was okay, but the portion was noticeably smaller than what most sushi places serve. The salmon poke bowl was very basic and honestly underwhelming. I also asked for spicy mayo, which was never brought out. The biggest disappointment was the service. Paying $4 for a canned soda with no refills already felt excessive, but when my son accidentally spilled it, we cleaned it up immediately ourselves. No one offered extra napkins, replaced the plate, or even asked if we wanted another drink. It just felt inattentive from start to finish. To make matters worse, one staff member was sitting at the bar listening to something loudly on a laptop, which completely took away from the atmosphere and felt unprofessional. As someone who used to waitress, I understand the service industry and I'm usually a generous tipper. But I also believe tips reflect service, and unfortunately this experience missed the mark. After picking up our receipt, the hostess was visibly unhappy with the tip amount and had no issue making that clear which only reinforced the poor experience. I very rarely leave one-star reviews, but for a place with a 4.6 star reputation and "top-rated" marketing, this was incredibly disappointing. Cute atmosphere and one great sushi roll aside, the service and overall experience were just not what we expected.

In a state with no shortage of sushi options, this has remained my go-to spot year after year. At this point, I think I've tried either everything on the menu or come pretty close to it. That's what happens when you keep returning to the same place for over a decade. The reason I keep coming back is simple: consistency. The fish is always fresh, the sushi is well prepared, and the food is reliably good. If I order something cooked, it arrives hot and exactly as expected. There are restaurants where you're rolling the dice every visit. Haruki East has never felt like one of them. The restaurant itself is clean, comfortable, and easy to get to. The location is convenient, and the prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the food. That's become increasingly rare these days. The only reason I'm stopping at four stars instead of five is the service. While I've never had a genuinely bad experience here, the last few visits have been noticeably slower than I remember. Service has also felt a bit inattentive at times, and these weren't during packed dinner rushes or busy weekend nights. Nothing terrible, just enough that I found myself waiting longer than expected for drinks, check-ins, or the bill. That said, the food continues to be excellent, and that's ultimately why I keep coming back. After 15 years, Haruki East has earned a level of trust that few restaurants achieve. When I'm craving sushi, this is still the place I think of first. The occasional service hiccup hasn't been enough to change that. If you're looking for fresh fish, a broad menu, reasonable prices, and a restaurant with a long track record of getting the important things right, Haruki East remains one of the best choices in Rhode Island.
