I was in here about a month ago with my mom while her car was being worked on next door. It came highly recommended by the guys at Prairie Road Automotive, including the owner, Bill. It's a very short walk, next door. So we figured we'd try it out. It doesn't look like anything special on the outside. It looks like a dive bar that was in its prime in 1985 and hasn't been touched since. Had it not been so highly recommended, I wouldn't have given it a second thought. The first thing I noticed when walking in was it was actually fairly clean inside. I didn't have high expectations given the exterior appearance, so it wasn't exactly hard to exceed them. Lol. But I didn't thing I was going to pick up any horrible diseases just from sitting down in here. The booths need to be redone, as there's a few tears in them, but that was the worst I found. We walked in and saw menus, so we grabbed two and sat down to start browsing. Our waitress came by a moment later, she wasn't far behind us. Took our drink orders and told us about the specials. She was older and clearly worked in bars for much of her adult life, but wasn't harsh or abrasive. She wasn't overly social, but nothing bad to say about her either. We both ordered the prime rib special and a salad to go with it. The salad was nothing special. Bagged lettuce and dressing. No croutons, tomatoes, added anything. The prime rib was huge though! There's nothing about small portions here. This came with mashed potatoes and gravy and mixed veggies. Veggies were likely a frozen mix, as they had that kind of mushy quality to them. Not impressed by that part. The potatoes were real, and the gravy was legit. I'm very critical of any restaurant gravy, and this was good. Prime rib was cooked perfectly, medium rare. All in all, it was a good experience. I enjoyed my meal. It's big portions, but no frills. It was served in a clean environment with good service. I'm planning on going back and trying the broasted chicken in the future. If you're looking for a good, hearty meal (think meat and potatoes meal) and can get past the dive bar setting, you'll enjoy the food here. read more
