Our family took a day trip around Olympic National Park and intended on grabbing food somewhere along the way. Good thing we were hungry for some breakfast/brunch type food, because The Roosevelt Room at Lake Quinault Lodge wasn't too far away, and they did it right! It was an overcast and rainy day at the lake, which we got to enjoy from the warmth and dryness of the dining room. We were seated promptly, and our server got our drink orders swiftly. I ordered the biscuits and gravy -- wow! Many places boast their house made biscuits, but they can be hit or miss. The Roosevelt Room's biscuits were flaky, tender, and delicious. We got one to split four ways, and that's when I knew my entree would be the biscuits and gravy. What a presentation! The giant biscuit split in half, stacked high with a sausage patty, scrambled eggs, and microgreens, topped with a delicious sausage gravy. No cheap packet flour gravy here, this was the real deal. You could also tell it hadn't been sitting under a heat lamp while the rest of our table's orders were made, because the gravy was hot and flowing -- no film forming at all. Each bite was somehow better than the last, and it was a tremendous amount of food. I really liked the presentation too -- it was clearly a thoughtfully conceived dish, and not the normal grands biscuits with a packet of McCormick gravy you'd expect from many other hotel restaurants. The food combined with the awesome view and unique location are unbeatable, and now I want to stay a couple nights at the lodge for the full experience. I'd say it's a meal fit for a king, but since Franklin D. Roosevelt ate there during his visit in 1937, it's maybe even a meal fit for a president! read more
