"Malakor" means papaya and "Isaan" is the northeastern (and largest) region of Thailand. This region actually gets cold during the season unlike in Bangkok. The name Malakor Thai Isaan signals northern style Thai food, which is a little different than most Thai restaurants in SoFlo.
My favorite dish of the night was the Pad Mee Ko-rad. I had no idea what it was, but I saw on the menu pic that it was a noodle dish and it turned out to be similar in texture to Pad Thai. However, this tasted different than Pad Thai, but with the same type of noodles. Delish! It was also a very generous portion.
Other notable items were the Sai Aur (or Chiang Mai Sausage), Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles), Kuar Kling, and Salty Fish Fried Rice among others. The Salty Fried Fish was salty as expected, but much too salty in the end.
Don't be surprised if you have a hard time ordering here with all of the unique and unfamiliar items to choose from. I'd suggest ordering the pictured items which seem to be the featured ones and also more northern Thai-ish ones
Malakor offers seven levels of spiciness. If you love spicy, then level three should be enough. Also, the server can bring extra spice on the side if you need more. Therefore, starting with low spiciness is a good idea.
Coming here with a group of four is also a good idea in order to try many dishes, but no larger than that since this place is fairly small. Service is very friendly here. Ownership is authentically Thai. read more
