If you're strolling through downtown Jim Thorpe and looking for something a little different, make sure you stop by Stonekeep Meadery & Wine Cellars. Tucked away on Broadway, this cozy little tasting room is a hidden gem that's well worth seeking out.
The atmosphere has a fun medieval feel that perfectly matches the history behind mead, one of the world's oldest alcoholic beverages. Whether you're already a mead fan or trying it for the first time, the staff makes the experience enjoyable and educational. They happily explain the different styles, from traditional honey meads to fruit-infused varieties, and offer complimentary tastings so you can discover what suits your palate best. Their meads are crafted with Pennsylvania honey and local ingredients, making each pour feel like a true taste of the region.
I also appreciated that they offer wines in addition to their meads, so there's something for everyone. There was a great selection ranging from dry to sweet, making it easy to find a favorite. I ended up leaving with a bottle to enjoy at home because the tasting made it impossible not to!
The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable without ever making you feel rushed. They took the time to answer questions and made the tasting feel personal rather than just another stop along Broadway.
Stonekeep is one of those unique places that adds to the charm of Jim Thorpe. Whether you're spending the day shopping, exploring the historic town, or just looking for a relaxing tasting experience, this is definitely a stop I'd recommend. I'll absolutely be back on my next visit! read more
