I would have appreciated a little bit of a heavier bodied mead but since they are GF, I can understand their lines. Huge variety of meads to try, bottles to buy and a wide variety of them on tap for flights. They have different styles of flights. Our server was really knowledgable and helped make the experience better. They have a yearly club that has some cool perks like a custom drinking horn and a free tasting of every new mead the make.

However, today I was excited to find the Rebel Hive Meadery while browsing in the Fairgrounds Farmers Market! This was the first weekend they were open for business. Mike and Ryan were informative, helpful and welcoming. Ryan poured samples of their meads for tasting. I'm not going to attempt a mead review, as I'm inexperienced and was focused on simply tasting their basic mead, called "It's Not You, It's Mead". It was positively delicious! With my best French accent... "It was bright with hints of Concord grapes!". Haha, actually they assured me that there are no grapes in this mead! They have free tasting which is now allowed. I tried the straight up version ,"It's not you, It's Mead, which is a true essence of honey but not cloyingly sweet. The" Just a Simple Boring Name", made with Chamomile and Lemon Drop Hops , is like a perfect cup of tea with honey and lemon. My final selection was the Black Currant Mead. It is dry and has a nice kick with 13.5 % alcohol. Delicious wine that would match with many savory foods. I also purchased a bottle of raw honey made by Lisa's Bee Farm in nearby Birdsboro. It is only available this time of year and is absolutely delicious on toast. Lisa was there today and was very friendly. This business has just opened during a difficult time and can use all the support they can get. You will get an excellent product and will be supporting a new local business. You will be glad you did.

We decided to share a flight which was $9. But really it wasn't like flights, they just let us sample a bunch. I am not sure how many we sampled but I am guessing we got our $9 worth although I wish they'd discount the flights/sampling if you purchase. We did get a bottle to go for a gift and the total came to around $32. Some of the flavors were really yummy and the ingredients are all fresh and some local I believe which I like. I also like that they do cocktails in house and they fresh squeeze lemons, limes, oranges, etc for whatever they're concocting. The atmosphere is cozy - like a cute coffee shop and decorated nice. Reminds me of my college days at the Allen in Annville...They don't serve food but they welcome you to bring your own food. Also they have live music often so it looks like a nice place to relax with friends and a drink or 2. As for me becoming a fan of mead? Not sure...I tried some that I didn't mind but really didn't have anything that I loved. There were some I was like oh no this is not for me. LOL I purchased a mule one which has fresh ginger and lime and I think that will be good over ice. That's another thing, we just tried them straight but I bet I'd enjoy them more over ice or however some of them are meant to be served. I'd still recommend this place based on overall experience. None of the breweries caught our eye, but I've heard about mead before so decided to stop in and see what all the fuss was about. The Larsen Meadworks is a nice cozy storefront right on Main Street with a small bar, high top tables, and some comfy couches and chairs. Not knowing the first thing about mead when walking in, i was particularly impressed by how the owner took the time to walk us through what it was all about - and to steer us towards some options that were similar to beer styles we liked. Was impressed by how many selections were available - and especially the collaboration they have with a local distillery - with rum from the distillery mixed with mead to create a cocktail. Gift alert! They sell bottles to go, I grabbed a few for Christmas gifts.

There's Arnold Palmer, hibiscus, rhubarb, pumpkin spiced, chai, chocolate cayenne, raspberry chipotle, and so many more! They're dog friendly and have some snacks like chops and salsa and charcuterie. But you're welcome to bring food from any of the many places nearby, like the Flying V.
