The location is absolutely stunning with Tintern Abbey on the doorstep. There is a large garden with plenty of outdoor seating and a playground suited to slightly older children. We didn't sit inside but it looked nicely furnished and had a country pub feel. There is also a cafe attached to the pub which is ideal for light lunches and snacks.
We initially went there on a saturday for lunch, I had smoked mackeral fishcakes served with curried egg mayonnaise and salad. It cost £10 which wasn't exactly cheap but the food was of a great standard and I felt worth every penny. My partner had a beef pie which was equally scrum my. This was all washed down with a local Why Valley ale called Butty Bach (I recommend if you enjoy a good ale)
You also get the £3 parking cost off your bill if you park in the Abbey car park.
We loved it so much we went back on the sunday for a traditional sunday lunch. I had a nut roast and my partner the beef. Again the food was lovely, served with a yorkshire pud and well cooked seasonal veg.
If you are in the area I strongly recommend! read more
