My original 'review' was 5/12/19 The German Clockmaker John Kessel came to my home to pick up a Becker wall clock to re-string the movement with catgut to hang each 3 lb weight. $241 with 'no guarantee'. He failed with his first attempt! This was a second go-around as the clock wasn't performing correctly after he first re-strung it 2 months earlier. I was so excited to finally get the movement back and it ran/chimed like a champ for all of 23 hours... then the catgut got "twisted/caught up" within the movement, snapped and the weight drop like a ROCK in the middle of the night! I'm just thankful the thick bezelled door glass suffered no damage. I don't want him anywhere near this clock again or any of my other 29 precious clocks... In addition to the Becker movement, he also took my miniature one weight Vienna regulator ca. 1860, convincing me the movement should be cleaned even though the 6 day movement, yes, 6 day was performing flawlessly when he left my house with it. When I finally got it back, my gorgeous antique clock now keeps time for 3 hours at most! And he had the nerve to apply some kind of shiny (stain?) polish to the pendulum stick without my knowledge or permission! The guy is a fast talker and a braggart.
