I find this to be the least exciting of the state parks on Long Island, so it is appropriate that you can park there and walk the trails for free. I had a quick change of plans yesterday when I was out in the Huntington area, so I decided to stop here, because it was on the way. I figured that with the millions of trees here, there must be some fall color. There was, but you had to seek it out. Early on you will see a junction, well signed that says the foot path is to your right. Heed that, because if you bear left you may have my experience of just missing an idiot going full tilt on his racing bike with inches to spare. The trails were mainly gentle, but the state might want to send somebody in to pick up candy wrappers and McDonalds wrapping relics. This is a park that I would only visit in the fall, so maybe next year I will be happier with the experience. read more
