Police, Military, Army Golden Parachute Jumpers , Troopers , Security, First Aid including a Mother's station and the great transportation people, (tx Suzanne) restaurants and kind people making things work. Maps both physical and QRs. Beautiful well kept grass and a crew keeping the place clean. Bravo to Citi Bank for their golf activities- Put Put and Vertual - phone Charger stations, a real Bar, places to sit and AC and photo shot spot. Thumbs up to the hard working volunteers at Delaware Patillon Restaurant C-9 , so many diligently work behind the scenes and runners to put lunch foods and drinks out for the many visitor's coming to this event.( see pix)

I've only been here once, a few weeks ago, to run in a socially distanced Turkey Trot 5K. It was more of a trail run which offered some nice views and terrain to run on. Plenty of paths to run or bicycle on. Trail running seems to be big here with many routes through the wooded areas. Can't say much more since I left after I got my finisher medal and went home. It was Thanksgiving and I had to get ready to feast!

The Preserve makes up a lot of hiking trails and we only did one. It was about an hours worth of hiking. It had wonderful views and was relatively easy. The most difficult part was hiking into and out of the gorge. I would definitely recommend this to first time hikers. There was a separate trail that lead to water but we chose not to do that one; next time! I would also say this is a very dog friendly hiking area. Lots of space and easy to walk for the puppos.

Make sure to bring water, bug repellent and a face mask with you. Small parking lot so if you want an early start...we were able to find parking for 2 cars shortly before 10am on a weekday. Follow the path once you start to not get lost.. there are several hiking paths and a bike path. We took Long Island Greenbelt Trail - followed the green markers all the way. There is a section that runs by the LIRR and a section by the streets where you have to cross the road to continue the path. I would not have known if my friends had not been here for sure! We passed the tree branch "arch", walked across the street to continue hiking (I believe it was Syosset/Woodbury), saw parts of an old vehicle left behind, followed steps to where we could hear and see the LIRR railroad and train (stay off the tracks!), walked under the overpass, came to a wooden bridge, to the open field which we walked all the way around and headed back.. Good idea of keeping track of these as land markers to help get us back... I for one would have totally be lost in the woods! There is cellular service reception... Please pay attention to the warning signs about feral cats and beware of ticks...don't litter, stay on the trail, stay have and have a great time! As you leave, don't forget to check for ticks and shake it off!

A 20-mile path from the South shore to the North shore on Long Island that is as diversified as…read moreLong Island itself. There are actually 3 trails side by side for part of the way. A bicycle trail which is paved and is also used by walker and runners. There is a dirt bike path complete with ruts and hills and parallel to that is a dirt hiking trail that is marked with white blaze marks on the trees you can follow. The entire complex while about 20 miles long is only about a 1/4 mile wide so even if you get off trail you will soon reach civilization. The trails are well maintained by the State or the Towns depending on location. Parking available at some trail heads and Bethpage Stat Park. Best of all it is all free.

Muttontown Preserve was my son's choice for our traditional Christmas afternoon hike. The location…read moreis in East Norwich on Long Island, relatively close to Oyster Bay. It is managed by the Nassau County Parks & Recreation Department. On the drive from Brooklyn I read the very interesting and historic story of the property, which certainly peaks one's interest. The site contains evidence of a Pre-Revolutionary War farm. The ruins of a mansion once owned by King Zog of Albania are still visible at the end of a trail. Rumors of Albania's treasures, hidden by King Zog add to the mystery. I read of skeletal remains that still remain a murder mystery. Plus, down one trail there are glacial remains. What a package, all within one nature preserve! We chose the trail entrance which is directly adjacent to the Chelsea Mansion entrance. At the beginning of the trails was a small shack, which must have been the office. It wasn't occupied on Christmas Day. There were no rest rooms visible. What was available were maps of the trails, which we tried to acclimate ourselves to. We chose what was hoped to be the main trail. I had read that it was swampy. And swampy it was. The trail was muddy in certain areas. There were obvious remnants of a recent horse ride. So my childhood knowledge of roaming in the woods was put to good use. I held onto tree branches and vines to stay off the mud, etc. Rain or farmers boots would definitely be beneficial. The swampy woodland was frozen over. My Grandson loved stopping to skip rocks over the ice. He was certain he could break the ice with larger rocks. But no matter how long he tried, that didn't happen. My son decided we had taken the wrong trail. So we went back to the beginning. They took the other trail while I waited behind. The Nature Preserve closes at 4:30. So they were only able to get to the Glacial remains, which turned out to be a rock formation. Muttontown Preserve definitely requires a return visit, starting earlier in the day. The combination of nature, history and mystery paints an appealing picture.

I think Stillwell is one of the closest hikes on LI that would kind of compare to upstate or Mountain hikes. I think it's more for mountain biking but you can hike it as well. The trail is pretty and it covers a lot of mileage. I liked it but if you're used to hiking something flat you might want to avoid this trail.

Needs to be better marked; there were trail blazes but they were a little confusing. We really wanted to stay out of the way of the bikers and it was difficult without understanding the trails. This is a lovely park with a huge open field in the center -- not sure if it is a play field or not since it was covered in snow. We will return to see it in different seasons.

Waking New Year's morning , I went on All Trails for moderate 1st day hike before visiting family in Melville. Noted the Jayne's Hill Trail with the distance I was seeking, about 2.5-3 miles and made my way there. My experience was a serene ans scenic, if somewhat slippery walk as some of the trail was hardpack with an ice glaze. I enjoyed the challenge of finding purchase and having to be mindful of my steps. The terrain was varied, flat, winding, hilly in spots, but I would say easy for anyone. Reaching the summit, no longer ocn and sound views even with the bare trees, but enjoyed the nice memorial to WW. I liked this park enough to return aa few days later to do a longer trail, about 4 miles, which I extended by do some off trail wandering. There is a section that is high above Melville and South Huntington with some lookouts over the neighborhoods surrounding the Whitman Shoppes. Will certainly return as there seem to be additional trails to explore!

The trail itself is about 3 miles, and the marked trail made it easy to complete. Although there's not much no see up top, my boyfriend and I did get some photos of deer and horses.

Todays visit to the Community Center in Syosset Woodbury Park had an Hour long Holiday Magic…read morepresentation by the Silver Songbirds. ( see pix) For those who might be using a GPS be aware once entering the park to make aright turn and follow to the back parking lot where the Center is. The group was lead by Susan Lilli's - Conductor & Narrator. They sang a variety of holiday songs and did a few skits, also handing out candy canes to the audience. "Nancy" played the drum for " Little drummer boy". They ended with "Auld Lang Syne wishing the audience good holidays and Happy New Year. In the back there were a few snacks for the sharing. The building itself has some children's decor, a display of wall tiles and a little Christmas tree in the hall.

Despite my best efforts in the past to do Fall train rides, which turned out to be disappointing only because there was never any good colors on trees, this by far is the very best fall foliage experience I've ever had in my life. You get great views of the tree color transitions and just great photo opportunities. It does get cold on the water so bring a jacket. Experience is as excellent as last time with beverages and snacks for purchase. If you enjoy fall colors, great scenery and boats then you have to do this at least once.

It's not a huge preserve so the all trails recommended trail has you going back and forth a few times to get a mile and a half in. It got a little confusing for me but I managed it. There's no water to see but it's still a nice tiny little trail, plenty of trees.
