New deal mural at this historic Phoebus post office! I get a thrill when I find one of these rare murals! Loved this brick building with white cornices and white cupola weather vane on top. It was pretty impressive inside with wooden entry way, brass mailboxes and wrought iron accents. The concrete marker on the bottom right of the building highlights various post masters and shows the building date of 1938. This post office serves about 4,000 residents. Hours M-F 9:30-4:30 closed for lunch 11:00-12:00 & closed Saturday This small Hampton County waterfront town of Phoebus is named after a Greek god Apollo, meaning bright. We loved the significant history here and the architecture was interesting. There were many charming shops and restaurants on the main road. And Fort Monroe is a hop, skip & a jump away which is another site to check out! read more
