We only found the Welch Mountain Chalet because we were looking for a place close to where my family was camping in the White Mountains. Lots of great reviews on Tripadvisor. Otherwise I would have been hesitant to book a place that is kind of in the middle of nowhere. It's part of the appeal though and the place was lovely. When you enter, the common living room is to the left and your private living quarters are straight ahead. Behind a door that you lock for privacy, there are a few other rooms. To the first right, is the main bedroom. The second door on the right is another room with a full bed you can rent if you have kids or another couple. And straight ahead is the restroom. I'll post pictures up. Our room was comfortable and they have one of those old tube TVs with the built in dvd and vhs cassette players. We ended up grabbing something from redbox to watch but they had several movies available. John and his wife were great hosts. John emailed me a few days before our arrival to get an estimate of our arrival time and our breakfast order. We went with the German Apple Pancake and sausage meal. John served it with his homemade maple syrup and this sweet cream that melded beautifully with the tartness of the apples. Also came with scones and some fruits (raspberries and the sweetest honeydew I've ever had). It was served family style so basically we ate until we physically couldn't eat another bite. It was a beautiful morning so breakfast was on the deck. Great views and there were hummingbirds going around the feeders. John also gave us some restaurant reservations. We had a pleasant conversation about the French Laundry and Thomas Keller's recipe for butter poached lobster so we figured as a fellow foodie, we should follow his advice about where to go for dinner. Ended up at the Italian Farmhouse and I was thrilled with the food and service. I would love to go back to hike around the area and bring another couple to stay here. Quick tip: When we approached the entrance to the chalet, we weren't sure which driveway to turn into. If you look to your right, you will see their mailbox so turn into the driveway in front of the 140. read more
