Urban Plates is one of several modern casual dining restaurant chains and was originally opened in 2011 (first restaurant in San Diego). I put Urban Plates in the same categories as Mendocino Farms, Tender Greens, and Sweetgreen - think farm-to-table restaurant with scratch-made food from organic and sustainable ingredients. This is now essentially the new modern concept of old school diner restaurants.
[Parking]: There's a designated parking structure right next to the restaurant. First hour is free with additional $1 for each 20 minutes. $10 daily max.
[Atmosphere & service]: Modern vibe with excellent lighting. Good service - the staff will go around the tables and clean finished plates.
[Menu]: For plates & sides, customers can order one protein and two sides. Some of popular protein options include Chimichurri Grass Fed Steak. As for sides, Beet Salad and Roasted Brussels Sprout are popular choices. Each side is clearly labeled as one of three categories - vegetables, starches, and grains & salads. Oh all items on the menu has calorie information. For other popular options, they have Moroccan Chicken Braise Bowl and Beef & Mushroom Braise Bowl. Other alternative options include sandwiches, salads, and soups.

Plates & Sides (chimichurri steak 370 cal [medium rare] + macaroni & cheese 370 cal + side Caesar salad 140 cal - $21.25): Steak was cooked well, but I thought both sides were just alright - can't say they were bad but also not amazing either.
