A coworker recommended The Pig Shop to me. Wait a minute, The Pig Shop? The name on this page is Mobile Pig-Nic Catering so what's with this Pig Shop thing? The Pig Shop adjoins the Mobile Pig-Nic Catering space in the same freestanding building. If you've ever been fortunate enough to attend a function catered by Mobile Pig-Nic Catering you know they really produce some pretty amazing BBQ and other items. We consumers are fortunate that about a year ago they opened the Pig Shop which is a sit-down and takeout restaurant where customers can enjoy the business's amazing culinary delights every day. The business has a small private parking lot but if needed there is a good deal more parking available on the unpaved side of the building which also is home to a pretty large number of smokers and grills as well as some of their catering vehicles. The smallish concrete building is rather unassuming. Upon entering the Pig Shop you will find a very clean, modern space adorned with various pig and barbecue themed items. Overall, it's an attractive and comfortable space with tables and chairs for customer dining in the front portion of the room and an order counter backed with menu boards in the rear. To the left there is a common wall with a door shared with the catering side of the business, all the food is prepared on the catering side. There is a hallway leading behind the order counter to access the restrooms. A drink cooler with bottled drinks is to the right. Service is always fast and friendly, all the employees I've encountered have been very pleasant. If you don't want to commit to ordering an item they are willing to give you a sample to taste to help you make up your mind. The Pig Shop menu has all your standard barbecue eatery items. Pork and chicken (pulled) bbq, ribs, brisket, grilled chicken, etc... They have plenty of side items as well and you can purchase items a la carte or in combination packages or family packs. For a good value try the "paks." The Pig Pak is bbq pork, buns and sauces and three large sides for $25. A Chicken Pak (grilled) is $27 while a Ribs Pak or Brisket Pak are both $30. These meals will comfortably feed a family of four so they are a pretty good value already but on Monday - Thursday they are discounted by $5 after 5PM so the value is really there. One thing that stands out at The PIg Shop is their signature sandwich, the Hogzilla. It's large bun piled high with bbq, brisket, bacon, Swiss cheese, tangy bbq sauce and pickles. It's expensive at $8.50 without any sides but it's something you really need to experience because it's just an amazing tasting sandwich, heaven on a bun. I haven't tried quite everything on The Pig Shop menu but I'll give a quick rundown of my thoughts on their various menu items. Pork BBQ - First rate, really delicious. I love it with their spicy vinegar sauce. On Wednesday's it's discounted to $8 per pound so stock up then. BBQ Ribs - Only had them once but the ribs were dry and unappetizing, really bad. I've had better ribs from the deli counter at Walmart. They don't inspire me to try them again. Brisket - I've had it twice. The first time it was the best brisket I've ever had, so tender and juicy with a wonderful smoky flavor. It just melted in my mouth. The second time I got brisket it was dry and crumbly, way over cooked and not at all enjoyable. My wife fed it to the dog. Pulled Chicken BBQ - I haven't tried it yet. Grilled Chicken - Completely AWESOME! Some of the best I've ever had, so tender, juicy and flavorful. It's what keeps me coming back. Hogzilla Sandwich - Completely AMAZING! Expensive but just so delicious it can't be resisted. This thing is huge and the wonderful flavors really pop in your mouth. Now I'll move on to the side dishes offered here. You can add the sides to entrees to make combos or get three large side dishes with their Pig, Chicken, Ribs or Brisket Paks. Mac & Cheese - Love, love, love this rich and creamy macaroni. According to one of the employees it contains five different cheeses. It really is some of the best you will ever taste. Baked Beans - Very thick and way too sweet for me. I love good baked beans but neither my wife or me enjoy these beans. We got them once and never again. On the other hand, we gave the beans to our next-door neighbor who said they were some of the best he ever had so your mileage may vary. Collard Greens - I don't like them at all but then I don't care for collard greens in general so you can't go by what I say on this item. Cole Slaw - Freshly chopped, it's creamy and delicious. I love it by itself or piled on top of my Pork BBQ. Potato Salad - I haven't tried it. Sauteed Green Beans - Delicious, seasoned perfectly and packed with flavor. Cinnamon Apples - Basically a chunky applesauce, it's really delicious. Despite some inconsistencies, I love The Pig Shop and can easily recommend it to you. read more
