Absolutely fall off the bone ribs! Collards are so flavorful! Service was quick and the food hot. Great prices, will be coming back for more very soon!

Rib w/no sauce, fried in oil

I was disappointed...i ordered a rack of ribs (no sauce) and a lb of brisket. The ribs came cut up and the brisket was sliced. Not sure why they do that. Also, I never thought to ask how they cook their ribs, because it's a BBQ shop. After eating a few ribs, I called and asked...they confirmed, their ribs are fried in oil. Ok, good to know...just not what I was wanting from a BBQ shop. I ate them anyway, but it was tough getting the meat off the bones...and very greasy. The brisket looked juicy, but was very dry, I think slicing it had something to do with that. Customer service was very nice.

Wish I would have known about this place sooner! The customer service is outstanding! Everyone was so nice and making sure we were comfortable. The food came out quickly and hot. The flavors are amazing. The atmosphere is cute with decor and tables seat four. They also have To Go and Catering. We will continue to drive across the water for their food. The taste is authentic and much better than the BBQ places over here. Highly recommend the Hogzilla and the pork rinds. The fries are also great

Great dining area, very clean and organized. Staff was friendly and helpful. Food was delicious, the a la carte brisket options are great for those of you venturing into keto or paleo diets. Next time I'm gonna have to try some of their homemade desserts!

Rooster sandwich, spicy, with hush puppies

So, The Pig Shop is by my church and children's school. They cater many of their functions and also have a booth at our Carnival. I had never been to their shop. I was having a hankering for bbq after church last Sunday, so I went in and ordered. Got one of their family packs. The lady at the register was very helpful and patient as I asked my questions. They also have a specials every day of the week. I chose the special, the Rooster sandwich, spicy (fried chicken sandwich with sauce and pickles) and the family pack of 1# of pulled pork, and 3 sides of potato salad, green beans, and mac n cheese. I got hush puppies as my side with the Rooster sandwich. And I ordered 3 slices of cornbread and a sweet tea. Both of those were definitely sweet (which was great!). I loved the way they were packaged to go. (For my OCD self, presentation and neatness are super important! LOL) The buns for the pulled pork were potato rolls not just regular hamburger buns which made them tastier. They gave a sample of all of their sauces, spicy vinegar, sweet, and regular bbq sauce, as well as some Texas Pete. I loved the combination of spicy vinegar and sweet bbq sauce on the pork. The potato salad was nice and sweet, although I love more tang, so I could have had a bit more pickles/relish in it. The green beans, yum! The way I like it. Soft and mushy and salty. The mac n cheese was the only thing that was just okay for me. I would have preferred it to have a thick layer of cheese on top or maybe a little bit more cheese period. I mixed green beans in it and that made them slightly better. The Spicy Rooster sandwich was very good. I will ask for more sauce on the sandwich or maybe on the side to add. It has its own sauce. Hush puppies were good but I probably would try the fries next time to see what they taste like. Overall, I really enjoyed everything and am excited to go back and try something else on the menu. Looking for good bbq on the Norfolk, VB, Chesapeake border? Look no further than the Pig Shop.

    Ribs, Brisket

Best thing on my platter was the role. The ribs are tiny and overcooked. They taste like the oven cooked ribs you can buy from the freezer section. The brisket is cooked well but it is flavorless. Won't be returning.

I love Checking out BBQ spots, it's like always on the hunt for the best! Well I'm still searching because this wasn't it. I had the chicken BBQ sandwich, grilled chicken, pork bbq, coleslaw, Mac and cheese, and baked beans. Chicken BBQ sandwich- chicken had BBQ sauce on it and it was a little too much. Customers should have the option to adding it themselves . But no smoke flavor so this was =2.5 Pork BBQ didn't have any flavor to it and the vinegar they offer was basically apple cider with black pepper, and BBQ sauce was just ok. It did have a good amount of smoke flavor so this gets = 3 Grilled chicken was juicy and flavorful, nice smoke flavor and was really enjoyable = 4 The sides were sides, nothing memorable. It could have been an off day but next time I want to try the ribs! The prices are pretty reasonable and pretty good specials.

Very dry brisket in my to go order

You would never suspect the great atmosphere of this venue from the location. But the charm of the place really isn't the story. This is the kind of place that offers a gastro pub menu and they do not disappoint with a familiar yet unique menu offering some truly great dishes and perhaps the best burgers in VB. Definitely coming back.

We came here for Valentine's Day with a reservation for three (2 adults and a child). We were…read moregreeted warmly and seated right away, which was impressive given how busy it was. Our first table ended up being under a spotlight that was directly in our line of sight (it looked like it was meant for the specials board), so we asked to move. Staff was accommodating and got us to a better table quickly. The space itself is really nice. It was clean, rustically decorated, and the live plants in liquor bottles on the tables are a nice touch. Our server was friendly from the start and took drink orders right away. My daughter and I had sodas, and my husband ordered the Southern Charm Old Fashioned off the specials menu, which he enjoyed. The menu is on the smaller side, which we actually like. One unique detail was the option to "buy a round for the kitchen," which we thought was a really nice touch and decided to add it when we ordered our appetizer. We started with the fried deviled eggs after a friend recommended them. They were creative with three styles (classic with pickle, togarashi ginger, and crispy prosciutto), but overall a bit on the dry side and not as flavorful as we expected. We asked for Dijon, but they don't have it. Our server suggested and brought out the Baja dipping sauce instead, which did pair well and kind of improved them. My husband had the fish and chips and really enjoyed it. He said the fish was flaky and well cooked. I ordered the Union grilled cheese, which unfortunately seemed like it had been sitting a bit before being served, as the bottom was soggy. It was just okay overall and not particularly memorable for the price. The sweet potato fries on the side were the clear standout. They were crispy, the perfect balance of sweet and salty and honestly the best part of the dish. Our daughter had the kid's smashburger. It was exactly that. Service throughout the meal was good. She was friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and there when needed. The main disappointment came at the end. When our meals were served, the server actually offered sauces at the table (ketchup, mayo, ranch, etc.), and specifically suggested items like the baja sauce for the eggs and ranch to us. Because of that, we were surprised to see several charges for the sauces on the bill, especially since they were offered and recommended at the table with no mention of any additional cost. We were also charged a credit card fee, with no signage anywhere (entrance, hostess stand, or menu) indicating that paying with a card would include an extra charge. It just left an unnecessary sour note on an otherwise solid, casual meal. Nothing was bad, and nothing really stood out as exceptional, but the lack of transparency around those final charges really impacted the overall experience for us.

I ordered the Sunrise Burger, subbing hot honey for the mayo and oh-mah-gawsh that was an excellent decision. (The burgers are a little on the smaller side, but I found it to be the perfect size.) I told my husband that the onion rings were some of the best I've ever had. Kyle was our server, and he was incredible--attentive despite being a little overwhelmed. So when one of the Homies told me about this place I was all in because - burgers - what's not to love. Barrel 17 did not disappoint; when i got there i realized quickly i was the last to know because it was busy. We had about a 10 minute wait to be seated but that was cut short by option to sit at the bar. The bartender was working like she had six arms. It was non stop; attentive, taking orders, making drinks, checking back with others, she was truly impressive. The places was jumping; it was busy, casual and didn't slow down from the time we arrived until we left. Parking is challenging, there's a small lot beside the restaurant and a small lot behind it so if you can car pool you'll benefit yourselves. Now on to the star of the show - the food! The only knock I had was portion size. In a big guy with an even bigger appetite and when i left there i could've eaten my whole meal over again lol. But that's also because it was delicious. I got the mac n cheese starter, the Beast Burger, tater tots , and the biggest slice of chocolate cake I've ever had. Literally the biggest slice of cake ever- twice the size of my burger. Everything was delicious, from start to finish and if i were a person that had a normal appetite i would've left full like my friends did. Will definitely be back!
