We hired 1,000 words photography to take press pictures for our band last year and were very happy with the final results! Taking a picture of a group of people is difficult. Everyone has opinions on how they look in a picture and if just 1 out of 4 of us don't like a picture we won't use it--so it makes us an extremely difficult client. But Bryan was extremely patient and worked with us through multiple shoots to get us the results we needed. We did an initial shoot and weren't pleased with the results. It was cold, early and we didn't really know what we wanted out of the shoot. That failure was on us. I hired 1000 word photography for my engagement party and was very disappointed with the result. The pictures were poorly taken and had very dark backgrounds. I had specifically raised my concerns regarding the lighting, since my party was held indoors. Bryan assured me that would not be an issue, as he would bring his equipment. I imagined he would bring his own lighting equipment, which was not the case. The pictures clicked by my friends were far better quality and they captured some of the important moments that Bryan failed to do. Bryan is a very nice person to work with. He is professional , punctual and courteous, however, the pictures I received were poorly captured. Some snaps had wires and poor flooring captured in the frame, which I feel he could have strategically avoided. A lot of our guests entering the function hall had their backs clicked, and I only wish, he would have told us to turn around. I choose 1000 words photography because of the excellent reviews he had, his professionalism and the pictures he posted on his website. I also hired him for video, which I haven't received yet, while the contract clearly states that I would get them in 28 days. The videographer did not even have a mic with him, hence I am not sure if my parent's speeches were captured. What kind of video is taken without recording the family speeches? I spent way over my budget on photo and videography just to get really beautiful pictures, and I was asked to make full payment 2 weeks before the event. Like some of the others who have posted we had the same issue. He seemed like he was on the ball in the beginning stages and we were even satisfied with the photos, but have yet to receive them. We have contacted him numerous times and he even claimed to have mailed them, but once I asked for tracking information he went silent. Our wedding was in March of 2015 and I have grown tired of chasing after this man and our next steps will be to take him to small claims court for the amount we paid for the pictures, photo book and costs to have them printed elsewhere. read more

Do not hire this photographer. 1. He promises a venue walk-through with all of his clients "if the situation allows." I hired Bryan just about a year before our wedding and in all that time was never offered a walk-through. I finally contacted him towards the end of July, a little over a month prior to our wedding, to discuss style because we didn't get a chance to have an engagement session. When I asked about a walk-through, I was told that he was teaching in NYC during the week and had weddings back in the DMV every weekend and would not be able to accommodate me. 2. We exchanged a one hour engagement photo session for an additional hour of coverage, for a total of nine hours of coverage, at our wedding because my husband was stationed in Germany prior to our wedding. Bryan photographed our wedding from noon to seven pm on the day of our wedding. Two hours short of the promised time and one hour short of our original contract! On the day of our wedding, we weren't thinking about the time and didn't even notice until the next day when our parents mentioned how early he left. 3. When he left our wedding, he asked if it would be okay if we had our photographs in two weeks (his contract promises the photos in one week). We were completely okay with it as we were heading off on a honeymoon and then moving across the country so we thought it was okay to wait. After multiple emails and phone calls that went unanswered, we finally saw our pictures out of the blue on October 10th, after responding to other disgruntled newlyweds on his Facebook page. Now, that I've printed the photos finally, more than half of the files that we downloaded from his website are not even of a high enough resolution to produce a nice photograph. Please, save your money and hire someone else. read more

A disaster and the worst part of our wedding. Ignored specific directions (DON'T block the ceremony/get between us and the priest, for example) and insisted on taking pictures we didn't want or care about like a "first look" photo of my dad...who'd already seen me in my dress. Bryan was hired to photograph my daughter's wedding, which he did. After the wedding he posted her photos online as promised and has NOT delivered anything since. We have called, sent emails and even sent a letter, registered, return receipt requested, which he never picked up. My next step is to take him to small claims court. read more

I wish I could give zero stars for this piece of crap "photographer". If you have found this photographer on the knot or wedding wire, do not be fooled. It appears he has good reviews when you search for him on Google, but once you start looking at the most recent ones, they are awful. For starters, he was very friendly when he was trying to get us booked a year before our wedding. When he received payment the day we signed the contract, he was, of course, so nice. Months went by and then it came time to make the final payment two weeks before the wedding. He was such a jerk when we spoke on the phone, but it was two weeks before the wedding so what was I going to do? I had hoped he was just having a bad day and would be very pleasant the day of the wedding. My husband and I got married in the evening at a very nice venue and the event was very dressy. Bryan decided to show up in a jeans. His contract states he will be in business attire, which he was not. Before the ceremony, his camera dropped in the grooms suite into a bunch of pieces (I found out the day after) and had no back up so who knows if he really even took pictures or was just pretending like a coward. In the middle of our reception, I saw him more than once off to the side in the corner on his phone.. Not taking any pictures. Not to mention this entire time he had a horrible attitude and acted like it was his first day of the job. He was rude to my guests and acted like we were inconveniencing him throughout the entire formal pictures hour. After the wedding, we assumed our pictures would be delivered within a week because that's what the contract states. We were completely mistaken and this has turned into a horrible mess. He doesn't answer any phone calls, emails, or texts. Actually he did two weeks after the event saying he had a hardware failure and had no idea where our pictures were or when they would be ready. When we kept trying to get in contact with him after, He either blocked us or just sends us right to voicemail every time we call. It has now been 3 months since our wedding. He doesn't even work at the address he provides on this Yelp account. He is a scammer and a coward just looking for a quick buck. He doesn't care about your event or anything else. We are currently filing claims against him and in the process of getting the charges reversed from our banks. This was the best day of our lives but thanks to this awful person who calls himself a photographer for 15 years, we do not have any photos to show for it. And instead of him paying for it, we are the ones that are hurt and have to do all this work with the courts and banks to clean up his mess. Instead, he gets to sit back and spend the money he stole from us. Anybody who even considers this photographer, please go find someone else. Do not give this man one more ounce of business or opportunity to scam you like he did us. read more

We contracted Bryan Winston of 1000 Words Photography as the photographer got our daughter's wedding last May. He had several good reviews posted on the web. And he came across as honest and reliable in our interview. Unfortunately, we had poor experience with him that raises questions about the positive reviews on the web. Byran sold us his "silver package" that included the photography at the bridal dinner and the wedding and the reception, and posting of the pictures on the web, and supply of three albums and 50 prints of different sizes of photographs of our choice. He did a generally good job in taking the pictures except that he vastly overstated the time each picture would take thus having the family at the wedding site too far in advance. But this was not a big issue for us. The problems started with the delivery of the products he had promised. Instead of one week that he had promised, it took him several weeks to post the pictures in high resolution (that were in the contract) and only after we had to figure out why his site did not allow it (he had incorrect settings). He only got around to the albums after repeated enquiries form us but then we discovered that he has a very cumbersome program for producing the albums that was very difficult to follow. Interestingly, he himself was not that familiar with the program. After a few tries, we gave up and decided to do the albums ourselves on Shutterfly that was much simpler and better. He promised but never refunded us the money we had paid him for the albums. The 50 photographs are yet to come after 6 months despite repeated email enquiries that invariably went unanswered by him. He often pretended that he never received the emails. Finally we are giving up on him ever giving us the refund or to supply the photographs. In case you are considering using him, we suggest that you should do some real reference check and not rely on the web reviews that in hindsight seem questionable and possibly cooked. You should also not give him too much advance (we paid him the full amount a week before the wedding that he required) and link your payments to actual delivery of services. We write this review reluctantly because we think he is capable of doing a better job than he did for us. He was very responsive in the initial stages of the work and we are still puzzled with his performance subsequent to the event. read more

DO NOT USE THIS DEADBEAT OF A PHOTOGRAPHER.. YOU WILL NEVER SEE YOUR PHOTOS. We hired Bryan to photograph our Wedding in December 2015. He was very nice and helpful at first over the phone (especially when he was accepting payment), but the second we met him in person we knew we were in TROUBLE. First off, he dressed like a complete scrub (Jeans and a T-shirt). I typically don't care about this kind of stuff, but in his contract he said he would wear business casual. Second, he gave us no direction at all. he acted completely clueless when it came time to take pictures. I (the groom) was giving direction to him and he just followed, even after I told him he needs to take control. Third, During the cocktail hour when we were taking photo's he mentioned and in the contract it clearly states that he would have the photo's digitally to us within a week. Well.. that never happened. Bryan has gone completely MIA. He will NOT answer calls, text, or E-mails from either my self, my wife or the 30 friends and family I have calling him daily. So with that being said not only are we out over $1000 we are without pictures from the most important day of out life, I'm Not sure how this guy has any good reviews. I had a wonderful experience at 1,000 Words Photography. Bryan Winston was very professional, and the quality of the pictures is excellent. The studio is huge, and he has a wide variety of wardrobe items you can use to enhance the photo shoot. He provided snacks, played music, and provided a very relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. I definitely recommend him and look forward to shooting with him again in the future. read more
