Above & beyond, the WORST company & moving experience of my life, that I am STILL dealing with. I don't even know where to begin with this dumpster fire company. Pick up went...smoothly enough. The driver was nice, but drove off without saying anything or leaving documents I was allegedly supposed to sign. This left a weird feeling, but whatever, life is stressful. I get it. Fast forward to the day our pod was supposed to arrive: 6/13. We called the company to check-in about the drop off window as they had previously been very nice and responsive about this. The wait was over an hour, so we elected to have a call back. When we finally did get that call back, we were given an unacceptable time: 11pm-1am. When we asked about this, noting that it was well outside the original times we had been quoted and we have neighbors to consider, it was another hour wait. After waiting, the call back essentially amounted to "just kidding we don't know where your pod is lol. We'll call you Monday". That Monday, my birthday no less, the reason that we had elected to pay a little more for this company rather than a competitor, the guarantee that after a cross country move we'd have our stuff in a reasonable amount of time & before my birthday, we heard nothing. And again, had to call in, be transferred around, and wait hours. To hear, you guessed it, nothing! The following week, my partner and I divided up calls, trying to reach ANYONE who could do ANYTHING. Each time, waiting over an hour. Each time, being told we would hear back from: escalations, dispatch, upper management of all varieties, someone from the location we moved to, and on and on and on. We're still waiting. Thursday, the week after our pod was supposed to arrive, with NO notice, at 9am, someone showed up with our pod. Fortunately we were home & able to move our vehicle before getting blocked in the driveway. Unfortunately & unsurprisingly, they were a 3rd party contractor who could give us no information. So now, nearly a month after this nightmare began, almost two weeks after the original drop off date, I have an empty pod blocking my garage. Half of my stuff needed to be replaced negating the need for this service in the first place, my plants which would have been fine had this service worked as advertised, are dead, and I have no idea how to get this thing off my property. I have currently been on hold for over an hour. I will now be taking bets that they charge me for another month of product usage before anyone ever calls me back. To summarize: if you are on the fence about a company like this, take it from the person who hates writing negative (or any) reviews. You'd be better off setting your stuff on fire and giving up. Unreliable incompetent moving with time-wasting, zero-accountability, useless customer service. Lost our pod, did not reach out to update us, made us wait hours and hours over several weeks to give conflicting information. Pod arrived over a week late without any warning or info on when it would be taken away. It is still in my driveway with no guarantee when it's leaving and only the unaccountable promise of an absolutely inadequate refund of $50 for every day late. I'm going to have their equipment towed. Do not use this company. read more

What a headache! Worst mistake using this company. They picked up our container two days after the promised date. Then somehow lost it, we didn't know if it was en route or still sitting in a warehouse somehow. We called numerous times, had to wait hours for a call back, some of the call backs were dropped and had to wait until the following day to call back. We were promised a discount that was never applied. Took TWO MONTHS for our container to be delivered. The stress and upset this company put us thru is not worth the pennies we saved instead of using a more reliable moving company. read more

Extremely Disorganized Experience - "Moving Made Easy" Is a Joke My move with 1-800-PACK-RAT is still ongoing, but the experience so far has been incredibly frustrating. Their slogan is "Moving Made Easy," but this has been anything but easy. It began with the company inputting the wrong phone number into their system, which caused delays on the delivery day. After spending a long time on hold, the number was corrected and the first unit was dropped off. The driver was unhappy when I asked him to reposition the unit and said he was limited to 20 minutes per drop-off -- I ended up helping move it myself just to get it done. The second unit didn't arrive until 10:45 p.m., which is completely unacceptable. Scheduling the pickup was worse. I was given a morning window, waited, and later found out (after being on hold for over an hour) that my pickup date had been changed without any notice. I was told by the escalation team that I could extend my move with no added fees -- but the confirmation only reflected one unit, and fees were still included. I had to call again, wait another 90+ minutes, and re-explain the entire situation. I was then told only premium fees would be waived -- not all fees, contradicting what I was previously told. After yet another call that evening, I was assured both units would be picked up the next morning with no extra charges. Because of all the previous issues, I called again the next morning to confirm. As of 12:30 p.m., I'm still waiting to see if the pickup will happen. The customer service has been inconsistent, the communication poor, and the delays unacceptable. This process has been far more stressful than it needed to be. If this is "Moving Made Easy," I'd hate to see what difficult looks like. read more

So far this company has been my worst nightmare, I'm happy to change my comment if they solve my problem, but everything started when I requested a big enough container for a 2 bedroom apartment, as the person I spoke with persistent said that a one bedroom should be enough, I feel for it and had to give away a lot of my belongings so I could fit some of what was left. They charge you for everything, when I was scheduled the pick up i requested an afternoon pickup by paying 50 dollars, the persistent try to come pick it up early in the morning. When the pickup time arrived between 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm they stopped picking up the phone calls making a big delay and only getting back to me at 5:00 saying that they would be there shortly. Now that we already moved to the new location they refused to do our delivery saying that we don't have enough space, mind you we have more than 7 parking spots available front and back plus the drive way for them to do the maneuver, they are incompetent with a poorly managed costumer service, they don't even provide you with a protocol number and it takes more than 50 minutes to get a hold of one of them, I've talked to so many people by now expressing my frustration and asking them to deliver my belongings. We hired a service and they are not delivering. It's been a week and a half that I have been sleeping on the floor with no furniture in the house. read more

Refuse to deliver my container to my property which I have provided proof of ownership for. I own two properties across the street. One has a driveway in front of garages which provides easier access to the front of the house and the second property has an empty 25'x140' yard/lot that is accessed from the street behind it. We preferred in front of the garages but there was a concern about that space being tall enough because of an overhang so we had the back area as an alternate drop off location told the representative that there were two options for placing the container. The driver called, told us he wouldn't be delivering the container because he was too busy to fit it in front of the garages or drive around to the back of the property. He showed up and again insisted that he was too busy and couldn't deliver the container so he left. We filed a complaint about the driver and the container was supposed to be redelivered a few days later. We waited until 8:50pm on the delivery day and no one had showed up so we called. We were told that the local storage facility had not assigned it to a delivery route. The rep reviewed the two possible drop off locations and confirmed that at least the back yard/lot area met their requirements and rescheduled the delivery for the following day. The next day we get a call telling us that they will only deliver to the street in front of the house with a permit because we are not the owners of the property (we are the owners). We provided the appropriate documentation to show ownership of both properties and the facility manager still refuses to deliver the container and says that he talked to the county and they say we don't own the property. The facility manager will not talk with us directly, he won't provide any contact information or details about where or how he got his information from the county. We have had two different customer service supervisors confirm that the yard/lot area meets their requirements. We think that we are being retaliated against for filing a complaint against the driver and requesting a different driver. read more

Packrat overcharged the insurance by almost double the advertised rate. After packrat made a mistake in their billing with the mitigation conpany, they had their card on file but did not charge it, they tresspassed on my property, would not show proof of who they were and what they were doing there, would not stop, loaded the container which was not packed for moving, and damage my contents for which the owe me. After they admitted their mistake, they had to bring my belonging they stole back, they never paid for the damage or taking a week to return it. Then one of their owners, Josh, tried to get extra money out of the mitigation and restoration company by trying to stop the return of my property. Next, the mitigation company got online to transfer the billing on the pod to me. That is when found out about the ripoff. I started setting up a storage under my name and requested to get the pod that is already on my property transferred to me. Josh said no---the insurance has to pay double the rate, or pay for unpacking twice, pickup twice, delivery of a new container twice, pack everything back in twice, where Packrat gets to charge twice for delivery and pick up!!!!!! This is because their process does not allow them to change the rate, or transfer a unit number to a different monthly storage rental charge. Absolutely never use such a disreputable irresponsible business who is so blinded by greed they do not see the customer or service. read more

I had a great, stress- free experience with 1-800-Pack-Rat! I moved from Pacifica, CA to Cleveland, OH. I used movers on my last big move, and I had such a terrible experience I swore I would never let anyone handle my belongings again, I still have some PTSD from my last move. 1-800-Pack Rat was a completely different experience for me. From the first call with Norm, to the very end of the move. I scheduled all my dates for delivery and pickup when I made my reservation. I called before to make sure they were coming, but every time I called the call taker was very professional and knew exactly what was going on. The POD was dropped off in a timely manner on my scheduled date and picked up in the same manner on the scheduled date. I found all the drivers to be very nice and professional as well. I will say make sure you have room for the truck to maneuver on your street or driveway, that is the only problem I can foresee. Pack Rat keeps your POD facing upright the entire move as they set the POD down with a hydraulic lift. So long as you can pack the inside of the POD well, your belongings should remain in perfect condition. I had the back of the POD packed tightly and tied down, while the end of the POD held bikes and outdoor stuff that was not tied down the best. When they dropped off the POD, it looked exactly as I had packed it, even things I thought may have shifted were still where I put them. Seriously, this was a stress-free move, I cannot compliment them enough! I honestly couldn't be happier with how this move went; it was an entirely different experience from when I tried movers. Let them explain how they charge your credit card, as they do break it up a little strangely. But I was charged exactly as they said I would be, three separate charges and three separate times, but it matched up with the quote they gave me at the beginning, I was not charged anything extra. They will absolutely be the first company I call should I have to do a long distance move again! read more

They did everything they could to make sure we were happy and satisfied. My long distance move with PackRat started out great. They dropped of the container when they said would and they were right on time getting it out of the street when we were done loading it up. We stored our stuff with them for more than a year before we were ready to have the our things delivered. Their email invoices are terrible. They contain no information other than what they're going to charge on your card that month. Not even a customer or order number, which would be very helpful when calling to inquire about your account. Also, our monthly storage costs went up every few months. That was just annoying. When we wanted to the container delivered we discovered what it really meant when they say they cover 97% of the country. It does NOT mean they can get the container to most destinations. Our original move was scheduled for an address within 100 miles of one of their facilities, but we had a major change and landed somewhere that wasn't. The option they suggested was shelling out more than $1,000 to transfer our things from the container to a trailer. On top of that was a charge of nearly $2,000 to deliver. This price was based on the cost of the move plus the estimated 14' our things would take up in the trailer. Even though our new destination was half the distance of the originally planned move, the cost was 50% more. I chose PackRat because they offered me a $400 discount over the quote I got from another company. Nearly everyone I've spoken to on the phone has been polite and made attempts to be helpful within the limitations of their company. That's how they get you. Their monthly storage costs became significantly more than the other company and the total amount of money we ended up spending was absurd. My last gripe is that they have very convenient hours listed on their website, but they do not answer the phones outside of 'normal business hours' and ask you to leave a message. I don't know how they can get away with listing those hours. I'm so sorry I bothered with this company. read more

When my husband died, I was left with a home to sell in CO.,and his garage and workshop, plus our belongings to deal with. Much of this needed to get to family in IL. After checking into moving companies, rental trucks, rental trailers, and the POD company (which wouldn't even bring a unit to my location in CO), my daughter in law suggested trying PACKRATS. WHAT A WONDERFUL COMPANY! From my initial conversation to make the arrangements, through the pick up of the empty POD in IL, the PACKRAT people were extremely helpful and accommodating of my needs. With so many other things to do as well at such a terrible time in my life, I am so thankful for PACKRAT and its wonderful employees! read more

1-800-PACK-RAT is an excellent service that doubles for both moving and storage. I was moving long distance, but hadn't picked my future residence so the flexibility was perfect for me. Pack Rat stored my unit for approx. 2 months while I moved and lived in a hotel, then when I settled in my new place they delivered to doorstep. The guys that operate the trucks are wizards and were able to fit my unit in my tight, urban streets. I talked to reps both on the phone and in person and everyone was incredibly helpful and truly valued customer service. I would definitely use them again. read more

I'm highly dissatisfied with my experience using Pack Rat for my cross-country move. I specifically chose Pack Rat (despite them not having the most competitive price) because they GUARANTEED me delivery of my valuables on my requested date. After confirming my delivery date I did not receive my container as promised and did not receive any correspondence from Pack Rat that my container would be late or delivery would be cancelled. After several discussions with Pack Rat's delivery team- I was told they could not give me a date/time my pod would be delivered and that a customer service agent would contact me- yet hasn't. I am still without my container and now out several hundred dollars (my paid permit for the container expired, I had to cancel my moving company since I have no belongings to move, and I took time off work to ensure I was available for the 24 hour delivery window pack rat gave me). Not only am I disappointed that my container has yet to be delivered, I'm astonished at Pack Rat's lack of urgency and horrendous customer service. This has been an extremely unorganized and stressful experience despite, Pack Rat claiming they make cross-country moves a, "stress-free experience" for their customers. Speaking to a competent individual that can provide me any useful information regarding my container being delivered is virtually impossible. You cannot reach anyone at their "24 hour customer service center" or even leave a message. I'd like Pack Rat to contact me immediately with a delivery date and inform me of how they plan to rectify this situation. I also urge potential movers to avoid using Pack Rat because this has been a terrible moving experience because of them. read more

Super easy solution! I actually explored two options with Pack Rat: a) having them move me from IL to PA and b) having a moving company more me to PA and into a Pack Rat container. In Chicago, where I was living, no storage containers are allowed on the streets for any length of time. However, if you are exploring this option in a city with similar rules, ask Pack Rat about their "sit and wait" option, in which they will drive the container to your location but not offload it. The driver will wait up to 2 hours while it's filled and then drive off. It's a great solution because so long as the container remains on the truck, it's just a moving truck and not in violation of any city ordinances. Make sure you get Pack Rat to send you their moving spreadsheet, though. I completed it and learned I had too many belongings to fit into their cross-country container. Alas. Thus plan b) having the container wait in PA for my belongings to arrive by standard movers. This was also a great solution. The container was delivered two days before my movers arrived, they moved 2/3 of my belongings directly into the container and 1/3 into the house. Then Pack Rat came and carted the container off to its indoor storage facility until I need it again. I'm not entirely sure if I'm staying long-term in PA, so I opted for the long-distance container, which comes with pads and a lock. I paid a deposit and if I need to move the container long distance, they'll just lift it onto a truck and deliver it where it needs to go, charging me the remaining fee. If I end up in PA for the long-term, they won't charge me the long-distance move fee. Seems like a win win. Needless to say, I spent hours on the phone with customer service, and they were extremely helpful. I'd gladly recommend Pack Rat to anyone looking to move or store. read more

100% recommended. I was moving from western PA to Long Island, NY ...First thing I noticed was the customer service and how great it was. They were really pleasant and easy to deal with, they followed up with me (good thing since I had a million other things going on...with the closing, the packing & moving, the little stuff...). Second, I don't drive a truck. Third, I needed to store my stuff for about a month because I was going somewhere temporarily and then to my permanent residence about a month later. I weighed my other options...it would have cost me almost double for similar options, and the cheapest options, once I included one month storage at a storage unit, plus gas, plus hotel, plus tolls, etc etc...it would have cost almost the same but would have been a lot harder on me trying to 1. Drive a truck, 2. Move and have the equipment back in 3 days, etc....I could go on and on but long story short, from the first customer service rep I spoke to to the final driver and to the follow up customer service rep who contacted me to see how my experience was, Everyone was great and I wouldn't choose another moving company or method if I ever have to move again. All my stuff was exactly in the same position/condition I left it in..no one has access to my stuff which I liked, and the drivers are very careful, friendly and punctual. I really can't think of one negative thing to say about this company! read more

My mother in law used Pack Rat to move her belongings from PA to Florida. She paid extra money for a delivery on Friday. Pack Rat contacted her and said it would not be available for delivery until Monday! We informed them this unacceptable. She is disabled and there are things she needs. The person then told us Saturday morning it would be here. We ended up calling them Saturday at 11:45. We were told it would not be here until Monday! Very very disappointed with this company. This is the third time using them and this is the worst!! If we knew that they could not keep the promised date then the things she needed we would have made other arrangements. But what is disappointing is we were told on Wednesday that it would be here Saturday before noon and now nothing. read more

I would not recommend this company to anyone. I called them to coordinate a container for my move and they quoted me a price on the phone but when I got the agreement for e-signing the price was almost doubled. I called customer service to see what the reasoning was and they explained it was a problem with their IT systems.. ( this seemed to me like a convenient excuse). Then it took several more calls with customer service to get the order in and finalized with the pricing as we agreed. Finally the day the truck was to arrive I got a call from the driver... his first words were that he was looking at my townhouse on google-maps and he was not going to be able to deliver it.. I told him it was a good 40' long driveway with a big accessible road and unless he's driving an 18 wheeler there's no way he couldn't back it in. It's a huge townhouse community and I see POD's ( their competitor) and roll-off dumpsters dropped all around me all year long.. He said he'd come out and have a look. Well, he arrived, got out of his truck and said that the snow in my driveway ( the entire dusting of maybe a quarter inch on the flat concrete slab) was a "red-flag" and he couldn't deliver based on that alone. This was a colossal waste of my time, and now I'm having to make alternative plans with days lost during an already stressful move, all thanks to this horribly managed company. The only good thing with them was the customer service person, but I imagine that their customer service team has to do more work than the rest of the company if this is how they treat their customers. These guys were amazing. Went out of their way to work around our schedule and even deliver a 3rd container at 8pm in our move day when we ran out of space. Phillip helped orchestrate a complicated logistical transfer of my stuff from PODS. He and the driver Carol did everything they could to be helpful and were very friendly. Great solution for those who are moving and will also need storage. We moved from Ohio to Maryland and had to have a unit sent to storage until we were able to find a home in Maryland. The contents of our 3 bedroom, fully finished basement, 2.5 car garage home with a large storage shed were just not going to fit into our new 700 square foot temporary apartment. Our furniture was in storage for almost 9 months and when we finally had our unit unloaded it was in great condition. The drivers were professional and able to accommodate our needs (no overnight street parking at one location and removing the unit from the street at a second location within 48 hours - this was a bit of a challenge based on when the team arrived to unload but Pack-Rat was able to make it happen. There was even a little bit of confusion with who to contact on the delivery day - I forgot to give my husband's phone number to the person who was coordinating the move and I was not able to be near my phone due to my work schedule. The driver was polite and understood how busy we were. I never felt like I was causing him any delays. It is also nice to know that the key to the unit and the lock are given to you the day the unit is delivered. Awesome experience with highly professional staff. read more
